What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theaters?
I believe there is a thread here on this topic, but meh, who knows how many pages back it is and who wants to search for that...
For me,
Titanic: Probably close to a dozen times as I tagged along with various family members and family friends. Everyone was going to see this movie around me.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Pokémon: The First Movie are probably second. Maybe not up to a dozen times, but I kept going back to these as a kid while they were in theaters. I'm guessing seven or eight times.
The How to Train Your Dragon Trilogy. I saw the first one at least four or five times in theaters, and I know I saw both sequels five times each. I consider this the greatest film trilogy, my favorite at least.
Frozen I believe we saw four times. I enjoyed it, sure, but the husband really, really loved it, so we saw it a lot.
Next would probably go to Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3. I saw them three or four times in theaters.
After all these... there are many films I watched at least three times in theaters: Pokémon 3, Sweeney Todd, Hercules, Shrek 2, Star Wars 3, and Harry Potter's 4 and 7-2 are all three times I think. I'm sure there are a few more older films, too. Can't think of anything more recent. Generally don't see a movie more than twice in theaters anymore.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
The most times I've seen a film in theaters is 3 times, for two films. Casino Royale (2006) and Terminator Salvation. Corpse wrote: Generally don't see a movie more than twice in theaters anymore. And same, twice still happens rather frequently, but have not had the urge / time / commitment to see a film more. Caveat, the last +10 years I've lived in China, with a limited offering of (good) films.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
Titanic — 5
Phantom Menace — 4 Matrix Reloaded — 4 Fellowship of the Ring — 4 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone — 4
Finding Nemo — 3 Space Jam — 3 Spider-man — 3 Attack of the Clones — 3 The Two Towers — 3 Avatar — 3 For Richer or Poorer — 3
I think there’s probably a few more in the “3” range that I don’t remember.
I never see a movie more than once anymore. I think the most recent second viewing was Arrival in 2016. Or maybe The Last Jedi? Pretty sure I saw that twice.
I would like to see Everything Everywhere All At Once again in theaters.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
I doubt I will ever see another film at the cinema more than three times, but I did see The Expendables seven times back in 2010. To elaborate on stuffp's China point, the dearth of foreign releases in China means that when a good film does come out (and particularly if it's a Stallone one!) all bets are off and I'm a regular at the cinema. I saw it six times while in a third-tier Chinese city, and I asked the staff for the posters, which was a first for them. I even think some money exchanged hands.
Anyway, I also saw The Expendables 2 six times, The Expendables 3 and Escape Plan both four times. My three-time movies are La La Land, Avatar, and The Great Wall, and there's a bunch of double-viewings, but most recently Wrath of Man.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
When I first started going to movies I used to sneak into a second show just about every time I went to the theater. Sometimes even a third! So any movie I like from that era ended up with several watches. Scooby-Doo is tops with 6 and Two Towers had 5. Pretty sure I even went to Eight Legged Freaks a few times.
In the years since, only Avatar and Endgame have earned three trips to the theater.

Off the top of my head the movies I've seen 5 or more times in theaters are BvS (lol), Man of Steel, The Batman, Black Swan and 500 Days of Summer.

Promising Young Woman - 6 Call Me By Your Name - 6 Love, Simon - 5 Black Swan - 4 Baby Driver - 4 The Heat - 4 A Quiet Place - 4
I might be forgetting something else I've seen 4 times. I've seen many many many movies 3 times. That's usually the magic number for me.

zwackerm wrote: You saw Promising Young Woman 6 times at the height of the pandemic? that's dedication Yeah I never stopped going to the movies during the pandemic. Theaters were relatively empty so it felt very low-risk. Like my friend and I saw Freaky opening night and there were 4 other people in a big auditorium. It was similar other times I went. Promising Young Woman did have more people though. It was in a smaller theater and the first 3 times I went it was basically full. Seats were far enough apart though so I still didn't feel like it was a huge deal. Masks were required until you were in your seat too. If Promising Young Woman hadn't left I wouldn't have stopped going. I wasn't even tired of it by that last viewing and most movies I would be. I brought 16 people with me over the course of those 6 viewings. A big part of it was wanting to support theaters because they were struggling. But I was also legitimately obsessed with the movie and wanted to support it. I am a big fan of the movie theater experience. It's so much better than watching movies at home IMO.

I saw Tenet in theaters as well as Wonder Woman but there were relatively few movies I was interested at the time otherwise I would have gone more

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
Wow - didn't realize people went so many times to the same film. I don't think I've ever seen a film more than twice in a theatre.
The one's I've seen twice:
FOTR ROTK The Dark Knight (both times in IMAX) Casino Royale Oceans Eleven Senna Mystic River Forrest Gump The Lion King (a decade apart)
The only ones I could one day potentially make x3 are FOTR/ROTK.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
So I just went to see a film 4 times in the theater for the first time, it's the one you probably expect, Maverick. Just a great experience seeing it on the big screen, though I enjoyed my second viewing, which was on a smaller screen than the others, the best. The second time I was looking forward to it more than the first time wanting to live all over again what I loved the first time, also that was the only time without intermission. The 3rd and 4th times were more about appreciating the art of certain parts and it as a whole.

Did you have intermissions on your screenings?

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
Avatar is one of the best cinema experiences I've had. Every time it's back at the cinema I've gone again and not once regretted it. Seen it three times in total. Can't say the same about the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It doesn't hold up as well. Better on the small screen for repeat viewings. It cannot capture the same magic as when I saw it as a teenager.

I would kill to watch the LOTR again in theaters. I'm currently rewatching it at home for the xxth time and it never lost it's magic.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
LOTR for sure. Would love to see the series again. They get shown from time to time at various theatres (incl IMAX) but always miss them because they are often marathons which I don't like.
Avatar I have no desire to see again. Though fun fact - I watched it in Imax with Gullimont (KJ member) when he was living in Melbourne. Good bloke, good times.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
I like how the extended editions break up Lord of the Rings into six parts. It's the perfect viewing experience for me. It even felt weird watching the theatrical editions in full after buying the 4k blu rays. Avatar I would have liked to see in theaters during rerelease. But I cancelled my amc pass in protest to my local theater not getting Barbarian on opening weekend. No way I'm paying $20 for a movie I've seen ten times.

Re: What Movie(s) Have You Watched The Most Times In Theater
I'm usually a 1 and done kind of person, I'll watch it more after theaters though. The only time I can really remember watching a movie more than 2 times in theaters is probably Wedding Crashers, The Force Awakens, and maybe Indy 4 (That was my 21st birthday, a few people wanted to take me to see it)
