Barring developments regarding omicron... should be a pretty big weekend.

For the 5-day:
Matrix Resurrections - 56
Sing 2 - 46
King's Man - 21

So Matrix would need $41M over the 3 day to beat Dune? I don't see it happening. Should beat it in total gross though.

For 24-26
No Way Home - ~$130Mish
Matrix - $35M ($15M wed, $10M thurs)
Sing and Kingsman - Lost in the shuffle

Opening on Wednesday and a deflated Friday should keep the Fri-Sun portion below 40m. 55-60m is possible in 5 days though.

Not sure if Matrix will do as big as most of you are expecting. I think with the weird weekend dynamic of Christmas over the weekend I think Matrix weekend will be much lesser. I'll go with $30m weekend and $50m 5-day.

Sing - $35m 5-day
Kingsman - $20m 5-day (if it's lucky)

Spiderman - $150m weekend

The last time Christmas fell on a Saturday was 2010 and BO wasn't all that great (though the selection of films was weak also)

I'd expect 5-days as such:

Matrix Resurrections - 33
Sing 2 - 31
King's Man - 13

I know I'm not seeing Matrix at the theater. I think it will underperform also playing on HBO Max.

Some Canada shutdown updates:
-Quebec shut down theaters as of today. It's about 2.3% of total CAN/US population.
-Ontario is at 50% capacity. It's 4.0% of total CAN/US population. A shutdown would not be shocking by the weekend.
-New Brunswick was at 50% capacity but is a small population center (<1M)

From Deadline: With 50% restrictions last weekend, Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick delivered 7% of the domestic tally which is a sizable tally.

That's about 7% of Spidy's weekend tally that could drop to 0% by next weekend (-$18.2M) if Ontario shuts down.

I definitely think The Matrix would have done well in Canada as it's exclusively in theaters so could see a 7-10% cut if theaters are shut.

Are they shutdown indefinitely or with a projected reopening date?

From Cineplex's twitter:

Based on recent government directives, all 17 theatres in Quebec will be closed as of 5pm EST tonight, December 20, and will reopen as soon as we are allowed. All bookings will be cancelled for a full refund.

Not clear but looks indefinitely until case count goes lower. Not sure if they'll be open again in 2021.

Matrix Resurrections - 60
Sing 2 - 40
King's Man - 20

Matrix starts with 63% at RT. Consensus seems to be its better than Revolutions but worse then Reloaded.

Matrix is still fresh at 70%. Seems like it is not just a legacy sequel but a self aware commentary on legacy sequels. Really interested to watch it now.

I think it will play out like this with the wider audience. What once could have been a $70m+ OW is half that thanks to availability on HBO Max in this current situation.

That might be the worst consensus I've ever heard.

And I don't think it's because of MAX entirely.

Matrix is doomed partly because of Max, partly because of Spidey, partly because of the current situation and partly because it sounds like it's trash and audiences wont like it.

Matrix just looked off from the first trailer. Even though by all signs its budget is pretty high, I was expecting it to look bigger/more expensive/etc. and to feel more like a movie that could have been released as a July tentpole if they wanted.

It's honestly insane to me that The King's Man got a B+ CinemaScore. It's so boring. I wouldn't have expected higher than a B-.

TKM fans appreciated it more than fans who saw Matrix ;)
