Looks spectacular and trailer is excellent. Clear universal themes. Bad ass action and visuals. The next 300?

Is it based on a graphic novel?

I think it could do okay with it's current non competitive release date.

No way, this looks like an arthouse Viking movie...

I question a Robert Eggers movie from that studio having that high of box office potential, but the budget and cast looks decent

On another note, they really botched the 300 franchise. Waiting 7 years. Box office dropped in half. Could have been a multi film franchise.

Not too late for 300 2 (pretend the Eva Green one didn’t happen like Halloween) with ghost Leonidas. This is undead Sparta!

Nope this is giving me an Awards bait movie than 300. I feel this will be lost in the shuffle because it will have tough time finding the right audience.

I think this looks great and will get it a solid opening but probably free fall after that if it's not what mass audiences were expecting.

So yes I think it will do better than the doom and gloom on this thread :mer: but unless it's a mainstream crowd pleaser - wont hit 300 levels.

I don't know which audience its trying to aim, the trailer is too actioney which means they want to target young generation but the cast (aside from Anya who has been in a lot more serious dramas) would attract a lot more older. With the current casting I feel it will get lost figuring its identity so I don't expect it to open as well.

I think the action and visuals (quite cinematic) will ensure a solid opening. After that legs will be iffy (if its more arty).

I mean it looks like it would do well at the box office for an art house action movie because mainstream audiences probably won't be able to tell that's what it likely is. They aren't going to know who Robert Eggers is. This is not a subgenre I'm usually all that into but it looks very good. I assume reviews will be excellent but it's going to be closer to The Green Knight and mainstream audiences will hate it. I hope it's much better than The Green Knight. Honestly though this might not be THAT mainstream inaccessible. It's from Focus Features and not A24 like Eggers' previous films. I can see an opening of over 20 Million but legs probably won't be great.

It's cool they got a trailer out to attach to the big movies opening this week.

What makes me think it has breakout potential is that they are spelling out the revenge plot very very clearly, this is a much more accessible trailer and subject matter than "family is terrorized by witch in 16th century new england" and "two men in lighthouse have awkward tension". I suspect they will give it a way bigger push.

Of course this will have a bigger marketing push and almost anything is more accessible than The Lighthouse was :P. I think it will do well. Possibly 60-70 Million unless audiences really do hate it.

Seeing a lot of positive social media reactions to this lately.

It's clearly a niche movie but thinking 60m ish is definitely possible. I'm certainly excited for it.

the New Yorker had a bananas article about this movie (and Eggers) if anyone is interested in reading more about it: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022 ... mainstream

apparently literally everything in the movie is authentic

Apparently the final cut does not belong to Robert Eggers.

Yea I can see this being a movie like Kingdom of Heaven where his cut is 3 hours and they had to cut it down.

But with Kingdom of Heaven apparently the theatrical cut is not good and the DC is great? I don't know I haven't seen it. On one hand I'm opposed to studios interfering with a filmmaker's vision but on the other hand if he was going to deliver another polarizing film like The Lighthouse I'm glad they did. I'm hoping it still turns out to be a really good movie though. Normally studio interference is associated with a bad final product.

I just hope he loses control of the sound mixing. I'm not gonna watch another film of his until its guaranteed that I can understand what the hell the actors are saying.

Kingdom of Heaven directors cut is excellent. Also, I can't imagine watching Blade Runner with narration so I'm glad he got to improve that one too. Still waiting on that Exile: Gods and Kings special edition.

That is super depressing and not sure I even want to watch this now. He's a real auteur director, his vision should've been respected. You would think studios would learn not to meddle after Kingdom of Heaven and Golden Compass. If it's meant to flop it's going to flop and a shitty "crowd pleaser" edit is not going to change that.

The number one film in social media trends out of all April releases, outdoing Beasts and Sonic. Trailer views are on par as well. Looking to max out the limited business that a film of this type is capable of at this point

Really hoping this breaks out. I am so excited for it!

It should open well. It's a visual treat.

I'm thinking a $20m+ OW is on the cards.

What does the next 300 mean, 200+ or 90 million?

I don’t see any film that has no tie to anything hitting over 150 for a while
