Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
That's just asking for a "go woke, go broke"
Based on Priyanka being allowed but Cara (or another runway model type who's a lesbian if she said no) not being, you can use math to determine that race was more valued than gay for Victoria's Secret for represetation. Both have 2 negatives in white and traditional model looks for Delevigne and straight and traditional model looks for Chopra however race is more powerful than sexuality in their one strength. However Rapinoe is in despite being white because she is both gay and has untraditional model look. So race = 2 points, sexuality = 1 point, non traditional look = 1 point would give Cara 1 point, Chopra 2 points and Rapinoe 2 points. Using this model it would also suggest that plus sized, straight white girls at only 1 point would also fall a little short of the woke bar. Most of the time when you see the plus sized model thing it's a minority.

DaBaby actually got dropped from Lollapalooza. Usually black celebrities are immune from cancelation. Nick Cannon cruised through his “jews are savages” controversy last year. A real turning point for Woke culture I’d say.

Well, when Elton John and Madonna agree on something, anything's possible.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
20 years ago we had Limp Bizkit, Stone Cold, Eminem popular at the same time, basically a boon in FU authority type of attitude. For whatever reason it seems like this current generation is into the complete opposite, of letting the authorities make decisions for you, censorship, give the government control, etc. It's possible that this is also something of a "fad" that will eventually normalize within a few years.

Fans are trying to cancel new Jeopardy host (also their executive producer), I kinda agree with this one.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
Yeah, if it was one incident or tweet I feel cancel culture is way too extreme. But this new Jeopardy host seems to have a pattern of abuse of power that I think it's right to question him. At this point I think keeping him on is going to hurt viewership more than getting rid of him, so I think they will/ should ultimately make the call on that.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
Mike Richards totally fits the role of "standard" game show host. He sort of checks all the boxes, and has been in the business (as an EP for various game shows and host of Pyramid) for a long time. So he's a pretty clear cut choice. You can argue he isn't particularly charismatic or something, but Jeopardy! doesn't need that type of host.
But... his past is problematic. I'd like to think the show wouldn't have selected him if the claims and allegations held any truth, especially this day and age, but since he's an EP on the actual show, it creates a conflict.
I don't think the guest host season was intended to be auditions for the show either. And I don't think anyone but LeVar Burton would have satisfied the crowd, and some backlash was likely regardless of who they selected. A lot of people wanted (and petitioned for) LeVar Burton, but was he actually interested in being a full-time host? I think many are forgetting this. He also has a decent age on him. (Not saying he's near death's door, but 10-years probably would have been about it I'd wager as a reliable host.) And honestly, I wouldn't say he was one of the better guest hosts either, based on the couple episodes I watched of him compared to the others.
In the end, no matter if Richards stays on or they select someone else, there's no filling Alex Trebek's shoes, and a number of people are going to be mostly unfairly critical just because of this.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
Well, minutes after posting that, Mike Richards is out as Jeopardy! host. Wonder if they'll just make Mayim Bialik the main host now, or if they'll go back and replace Richards with someone else. Whoever it is though, they're going to be attacked pretty harshly since they're not LeVar Burton. So the show best up their vetting game to avoid another situation like this again.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
I'm not really bothered by Richards saying some demeaning stuff on a podcast a few years ago... guessing he was being a shock jock to try to be funny. The previous harassment allegations may be an issue though.
My impression is Burton wasn't that great of a fit, he is "too much". If Aaron Rodgers retires after this season I think he has a good chance.

All this has told me is that guys named Michael Richards don't know how to be funny.

The previous harassment allegations may be an issue though. I'm never usually bothered much by stuff people said on podcasts, but it does seem indicative of the attitude he has which correlates to the harassment allegations. Plus the dude is clearly desperate to be an on-camera personality. He's had lots of success as an EP but on camera or on the microphone, he's basically nothing. A short-lived podcast, some short-lived game shows. Nothing substantial. That all aside, they are going to have a terribly difficult time replacing Alex Trebek. Trebek had class and intelligence, but he was also deeply personable and likeable. He was one of a kind.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
Since she wasn't involved with the guest hosting, I'm going to assume the show or she herself wasn't interested, but Brooke Burns would be one of the better choices. She has plenty experience hosting quiz shows (including one or two Emmy nominations doing so), great diction and articulation, and she has a likeable personality with high energy. Of course, she just might not be interested, as said, in doing yet another quiz show (even if it's Jeopardy!) in her career.

Her hosting on The Chase was terrific. And she would be the left-field choice the show more or less needs right now. You're not getting another Alex Trebek. Any imitations are just dull white dudes like Mike Richards.

Re: Cancellation of pop culture and celebrities thread
Never been a "porn guy" and it's not for same reasons as other cancellations, but I found it interesting OnlyFans announced they're banning porn because the payment processors like Visa and Mastercard won't work with them anymore.
Basically Pornhub started getting in a lot of trouble because they couldn't keep track of the underage performers, revenge porn, sex trafficking, rape, etc., so they got dropped by the bigger financial institutions last year. They were about to do the same for OnlyFans, who then decided it would cost them too much to do a lengthy verification process, so they're just going to go without porn.

OnlyFans changed their minds. Or perhaps the credit card companies changed their minds instead.
Not even a week.
