 Predict WW1984's domestic opening weekend
... welll, here we are lol
Croods 5-day was 14.2m. Can WW break $20m for the Christmas 3-day? (Who knew this would be the question... under regular circumstances WW would be doing $15m+ Thursday night)
With HBO Max release and a lot of gheaters being closed still I'm thinking around $16-20m sounds about right.

I am hoping it breaks Tenet's record and does $25m.

Re: Predict WW1984's domestic opening weekend
I wouldn't even call Tenet a record, it took like 8 days to hit 20 million and it's weekend may have not even been over 10 million. I don't know, record daily deaths and cases and I don't think we've even gotten a Thanksgiving bump. The next 3 weeks can be catastrophic leading to Christmas.

Re: Predict WW1984's domestic opening weekend
Tenet’s OW was below Croods for the 3-day. I think WW84 will do under 5M with pandemic conditions leading to far more theater closures and restrictions by then.

Re: Predict WW1984's domestic opening weekend
A lot is resting on this films' performance in theaters. If it's another Tenet, many theaters just aren't going to survive without aid from a Congress that goes to "work" to cry over their colleagues that are retiring and still planning to go on vacation in two weeks versus doing their jobs. I haven't read all that's included in that new, low, $908 billion proposal that has a 50/50 shot at best of passing (if it gets a vote at all), but chances are that aid is limited for theater owners.
Maybe some aid can be had at last come January, but it could be too late if the holiday season fails them.

Some will opt to see it in theaters but I think there will be too many who just watch it at home for it to do that well. They should have released this in Tenet's place.

Yes it would have been better when COVID seemed to be under control to release this and things would have been much better. Still I feel there is a good amount of rush factor for WW movie than Tenet.

I think Tenet was a <200 mil film in normal conditions, Wonder Woman should be at least twice as big especially with Christmas release date instead of September.

Everyone is dramatically over estimating how well that movie would have done. Exactly. I do not think that many people were insanely excited for it. People couldn't even decipher a plot from the ads. Reviews were not the raves they needed to be either. It will be very interesting to see how WW does. I hope it does great for the sake of movie theaters that are open even if WB deserves to have it flop for the shit they just pulled. It will be cheaper and safer to watch it at home though. There the whole family can watch it for $14 and you get a whole month of HBOMax with that.

Re: Predict WW1984's domestic opening weekend
The reception to the news has been so universally negative that I HIGHLY doubt any other studio does this now.
Disney will soon announce no more same day theater/ streaming starting with BLACK WIDOW and reap the positive PR.

Ironically Christopher Nolan sped up the demise of movie theaters (at least for the foreseeable future). He publicly pushed the studio to release Tenet in theaters so as to preserve the cinematic experience. However, it was the lackluster performance by Tenet that influenced WB's decision to release their 2021 films on HBO Max.
