Moby, especially Everything is Wrong, had a profound effect on my teenage years and musical taste, as did the Chilis. These are my favourite artists.

I am going to be revisiting this thread a lot, I feel. Any time that I just feel like playing my favourite tracks. I suppose I could also just make a YouTube playlist.

I wondered if/when a Rocky song would show up.

Nice list. I'll comment more in a bit.

"Burning Heart" is also a favourite of mine, and perhaps it should have been included in the Top 50, but I don't know, I did not want my list to be just songs from films. I included a few that are just too fantastic to not include, and it wouldn't be a true top list without "No Easy Way Out".

I've been listening to a lot of music recently. Doing this Top 50 has been awesome. Listening to a lot of bands from my teen years and early twenties, lots of British indie/alt bands just a bunch of everything. I've enjoyed it immensely.

I didn't recognize #1 by name and if I knew you only by your music taste it'd be a completely out of nowhere choice. In the context of your whole persona though, nothing could be more fitting.

Was it an easy choice?

Very easy. It was the first song on my list and never budged no matter what other songs competed for the position. Is it a better song than all the rest? Well, it is as good as any of my top 20 but it means more, and has been my favourite song for the best part of twenty years.

My top five songs from your top 62:

"Everlong" by Foo Fighters
"Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones
"Porcelain" by Moby
"Swallowed in the Sea" by Coldplay
"Wide Awake" by Audioslave

This list is such a perfect distillation of my idea of your musical taste...I am not sure there any surprising inclusions or exclusions. Even within, for example, popular electronic music, I know you consider Daft Punk overrated and a bit gaudy, so I am not surprised they have no songs on the list.

Had to listen to about half of the top ten:

#2- You could have told me this was made by Hans Zimmer for a Nolan movie and I would not have questioned you. Songs that could easily slide into your favorite movies seems to be a theme.

#3- Awesome best track in the top ten

#4- My favorite of the ones I hadn't heard

#5- surprisingly poppy for your taste

#6- Awesome 2nd best song in the ten

#7- was a solid post rocky dance track

#8- Awesome but I like Knights better

#9- Not a Foos song I think of often but still damn goid

#10- was ok

I like your list. An unexpected mix of (mostly) rock and dance music. Thank you for reminding me about this song too:

Quote:
20. "We Are Alive" - Paul van Dyk

Love that song, Paul van Dyk is grossly underrated.

Also loved the Whigfield and 2 Unlimited mention in the first post. I don't think I'll ever quite grow out of loving 90s Eurodance. That stuff was just so damn prevalent in my life during my teens.

Apart from some Rammstein songs that I didn't add to my list because they were not on YouTube, there was also one other; "Spirit of Man" by Twelve Tone. That would have ranked in my Top 15 had it been on YouTube, but I couldn't find it.

My dad used to play this when I was younger on the few occasions we met up. Me and my brother used to take the piss out of him for it, and it has stuck. Funny song. Such a dad track. Country dad.

I would slot this into my Top 25 somewhere.

"Hold On To Me" - Armin van Buuren

I did not forget it when doing my list. I just didn't listen to this album recently so forgot how much I love this track, and van Buuren being one of my favourite artists needs to be represented in my favourite songs.

We Are Alive was just ok but it picked up near the end

Venice Queen is another great long closing track

Open Up was legit really good and my favorite new song I've head so far

Memory Gospel and Angel of the City both solid but I agree with your higher rankings of their other songs

You sure do like The Crow soundtrack!

And I dont know for sure, but id guess Ten Seconds is another closing track. I liked it more than Walking on clouds but less than freah fruit

My first girlfriend got me into Muse and Placebo. She was a big Muse fan, and was obsessed with Brian Molko. Before her I did not appreciate Muse and Placebo at all. I just saw them as "Plug In Baby" and "English Summer Rain", and to be honest I do not even remember knowing about Placebo at all before knowing her. Glad I met her.
