I think it's bad.
Sure, a lot of movies aren't budgeted properly, but those "ambitious" indie films with big budgets back in the day usually made no profit and are the reason we don't see more of them with INSANE budgets.
Those "classic blockbuster" directors are still around, making trash movies and then turning around and trashing current movies. Big whoop. Movies aren't good anymore? because the old white guys who used to make the "good" movies are still making movies but they're "bad" now.
I don't get the third issue? Because we've reached the CGI pinnacle, movies suck now?
Meh
They usually punish bad directors for being different. Because they're bad. The good directors usually get to do most/all of what they want. But studios do meddle too much.

I'd say the big issue is that most blockbusters are made to exploit brands rather than starting with a good script.

It's interesting, but there's also a heavy dose of "back in my day movies cost a nickle." And isn't the idea that movies " used to be better" driving the nostalgia revolution? People want what they love back but then complain when it doesn't make them younger.
