7. That's How You Know (Enchanted, 2007)

Sung by Gisele and Ensemble
Performed by Amy Adams and Enchanted Cast
Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

Nominated for the 2008 Best Original Song Oscar (Lost to Falling Slowly)

Best Lyric: Man: You've got to show her you need her. Don't treat her like a mind reader. Each day do something to lead her to believe you love her

Disney's finest live action musical number, in my opinion. The amount of joy and energy present in this number (and really the entire Enchanted movie) is really something I wish was present in more family movies nowadays. The song, like Happy Working Song, is a parody, this time of big production numbers like Under the Sea, Be Our Guest and Friend Like Me, but I actually think it is so clever in its execution, that its brilliance exceeds all of those. The song starts with Gisele improvising until some dudes hear her and sing it back to her, and it keeps spreading until all of New York is singing and dancing along. And the lyrics really are good advice as to how to woo a woman. This song is much better than Falling Slowly and certainly deserved the Oscar the year it was nominated. This is really one song that I will never tire of no matter how many times I hear it.

There are none of those movies in my top 3. 1 is in my top 4 and Two of another is in my top 6.

Because of this clue I think I know what what 4 to 6 are and what 2 of the top 3 is, but not the order (except for 4) or the other song in the top 3

Yeah it's Daughters of Triton, Les Poissons and Prince Ali. A Whole New World and Part of Your World miss the top 100.

6. A Whole New World (Aladdin, 1992)

Sung by Aladdin and Jasmine
Performed by Brad Kane and Lea Salonga
Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Tim Rice

Winner of the 1993 Best Original Song Oscar

Best Lyric: Man: Jasmine: Unbelievable sights. Indescribable feeling. Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling, through an endless diamond sky!

While there are 5 songs ranked above it, "A Whole New World" probably has the most distinctive Disney feel of any Disney song. The way that it completely makes the viewer or listener feel like they're being swept away to the titular whole new world is magical. The vocals are beautiful and romantic sounding; honestly I don't think anyone could take a magic carpet ride like this around the word and not fall in love. The lyrics manage to keep the Howard Ashman feel, though this was one of the first songs Disney penned for the Renaissance following his death. I was walking past the Disney store at my mall the one day, and this song was playing, and that alone drew me in. They really just don't write them like this anymore.

5. Prince Ali (Aladdin, 1992)

Sung by The Genie, Jafar and Ensemble
Performed by Robin Williams, Jonathan Freeman and Aladdin Cast
Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice

Best Lyric: Man: With sixty elephants, llamas galore, with his bears and lions, a brass brand and more! With his forty fakirs, his cooks, his bakers, his birds that warble on key!

Prince Ali is the best song of Aladdin. I really wish it had been nominated for the Oscar, even though I'm fine with A Whole New World winning. Like "Friend Like Me", Prince Ali is a big showstopper that is more for fun than advancing the plot along. But who cares when this is what you get! The animation sequence is frantic and overwhelming, and full of Easter eggs. The song is probably the most catchy in the film, and Robin Williams' voice performance is a revelation, even if he's not quite as inventive here as in "Friend Like Me". I think it may be that this song isn't as overexposed as the other songs in Aladdin. but the fast lyrics are fun to sing along to and I really just love everything about this, even if it's not as meaningful of a song as the top 4. The reprise is really good too, and it's probably the only reprise I can think of that is given to a different character than in the original, and it makes sense thematically too.

I think in the context of the film, the combo of the two versions is great. But just as a song I don't think it's a Top 10 one.

4. Part of Your World (The Little Mermaid, 1989)

Sung by Ariel
Performed by Jodi Benson
Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Howard Ashman

Best Lyric: Man: You want thingamabobs? I've got twenty.

When I was little, The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie, and it was mainly due to the fact that I was in love with Ariel and I wanted to marry her. But also this song, which I have known the words to as long as I can remember. I literally cannot remember a time where I did not know every lyric, that's how long I've been listening to nd loving this song. It just has the most gorgeous, inventive melody, so much that the tune is integrated into the score throughout the movie and is heard again at the end of the movie. It's a great character development song, and the viewer feels so hard for Ariel, even if what she wants is not necessarily the best and really is probably just due to hormones. I cannot believe that this song was almost excised (thanks again, Jeffrey Katzenberg)because kiddies were restless during it. While he did get his way with Aladdin, Ashman won out here and the result is a film that is infinitely better due to the inclusion of this absolute masterpiece.

Seeing your list it seems it could only be these 3, I'm guessing Colors of the Wind #1, with Beauty and the Beast (#2) and Belle (#3) before that.

Beauty and the Beast is already on the list.

Colors of the Wind/Belle are definitely in your Top 3.

I've never been that fond of Part of Your World, kind of feels like a default Disney ballad to me

I'll Make A Man Out Of You is assumingly in the other song in the top 3

Oh yes, thought he posted that already.

Yeah, those 3 are the Top 3.

If I did my own Top 2, Part of Your World and I'll Make A Man Out of You would be the two.

3. Belle (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)

Sung by Belle, Gaston, the Bimbettes and the Townspeople
Performed by Paige O'Hara, Richard White, Mary Kay Bergman, Kath Soucie and Beauty and the Beast Cast
Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Howard Ashman

Nominated for the 1992 Best Original Song Oscar (Lost to Beauty and the Beast)

Best Lyric: Belle: I want adventure in the great wide somewhere! I want it more than I can tell!

Be Our Guest and Beauty and the Beast are more iconic, but I do believe that Belle is the best song in Beauty and the Beast. I am a really big fan of Broadway and musical theater, and of the songs in Beauty and the Beast, Belle is the most traditional Broadway number. Including the reprise, which follows immediately after the original song, th song runs over five minutes, and introduces several important characters and plot lines that will be important throughout the rest of the film. I think it's just as catchy as "Be Our Guest" with a little more melodic complexity. The original song is great, but the reprise which serves as Belle's "I Want" song, is what really drives the number home. The segment where she runs up the hill and sings about adventure in the great wide somewhere is probably the most chill inducing moment in all of Disney's animated films. I really just love this song so much.
