I'm actually starting to sorta/kinda believe the conspiracy that Trump is a Hillary plant and is trying to lose the election on purpose. Well actually, I don't believe he's a Hillary plant, but he's definitely a delusional, mentally ill egomaniac. Literally my dog would do a more competent job with a presidential campaign.

I mean, no one has ever seen anything like this. The GOP as we know it is literally imploding before our eyes.

I don't think he is ever trying to help Hillary, but I do get a sense that he doesn't really want to be President. It's as if he wonders every morning "why there are still so many people supporting me!"

Hillary's lead in national polls has matched well with the favorability rating at Gallup: http://www.gallup.com/poll/189299/presi ... #pcf-image (3-5% lead before GOP convention, tied after, and now back up to a big 10% lead).

I can see him not actually wanting the job, but I don't believe for a second that he doesn't want to win.

The demolition of the Republican party by Trump's nomination is exactly the result many people are hoping to see if they vote for him for president. The dismantling of a corrupt system run by corporate money rather than true democracy and perpetuated by the false choice of the two party system. Those believing Trump's lack of logic and grace are a lock for his failure in the coming election are severely misdiagnosing the broader illness that infects America.

But you can't win the presidency by destroying the party. It doesn't work that way.

Trump needs a base of voters other than white men without college degrees. He can't win an election based on that one group alone.

I mean, look at these polls right now. His campaign has been going down in flames since the DNC and the confrontation with the Khans. Like, Fox News, of all polls, has Hillary up by 10.

It's hilarious seeing his supporters say the polls are lying because he draws big crowds.

Don't ever go to the Trump subreddit if you don't want your brain to fall out of your head.

Hillary got an absolutely massive post convention bump. Up huge in latest Fox and projected to win EC by near 180 votes. Every swing state currently trends her direction, some by huge margins.

She's also very close with Trump in Arizona and Georgia, which should theoretically both be red and Trump cannot afford to lose. Goodness, she's not even far behind in Utah.

A McClatchy-Marist poll out today has her up by 15 points nationally.

According to 538's now-cast, Hillary basically has 50-50 shot at winning Arizona and Georgia, and 8 other states with 20% or more chance.

Would love to see a poll from Texas at this point.

Saw something saying she's pulling ads from Colorado/Virginia because she's up so much in the polls.

The dynamic for Senate races is changing as well. The new NH poll today has Hassan up big by 10 points.

Honestly, this is smart at this point. Speaking as a Virginian, the sheer Democratic stronghold of northern Virginia and Kaine's presence makes Trump winning here very difficult. And I think Colorado is largely the same. They can always get ad time back later if things slip.

Turning Texas blue would be Trump's greatest achievement. Growing urbanization, a large hispanic community and old people dying were already making it less unlikely, but Trump is so spectacularly horrible that I hope he somehow manages. Losing their (by far) biggest state might actually wake up the Republicans and show them how freaking out of touch with reality they are.

And it could happen, yo. Obama got 41% of the vote in Texas in 2008 despite Hillary winning the primary vote there, and he basically ignored the state. Tapping into the vast latino community there and convincing them to vote in larger numbers than they previously have could actually swing the vote in Hillary's advantage.

Texas won't turn blue in this election, but the demographics are definitely shifting enough that it very well could in the next 10 years. Which is kind of staggering.

A new poll showed Clinton leading by 4 in GA.

The fact that a Republican presidential candidate even has to worry about Georgia is insane.

God knows I don't want to get overconfident (and I'm definitely worried about Democrats getting complacent and not turning out high enough), but I'm starting to not see any kind of path for Trump at this point. Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida were must wins even before his lead evaporated in places like Georgia and Arizona.

The Republican party very well may be, in fact, dead. It seems extremely unlikely that anybody wins a national election in 2020 or 2024, and the Dems bench is clearly deeper with the demographics clearly heading their way too.

What is the evidence that it is deeper? I agree that it's going base is stronger but not that it's bench is deeper based on the composition of the House, Senate, Governorships, and state legislatures. However, Trump getting obliterated will help make up that problem.

Well the problem is demographics. They have to change their message and try to attract more Hispanics because the non-white vote is rising. If they keep blowing off the Hispanic vote, it will be hard for them to win a presidential election any time soon.

A Monmouth poll released today, which has an A+ rating, shows Hillary up by 13 points.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/p ... ers-226790

Some other poll released today had her ahead in Georgia. If Trump can't even keep Georgia red, this is going to be a bloodbath.

Also, 50 GOP top national security officials sign letter warning Trump would put nation's security at risk.

the Republican party outside of Trump/presidential elections doesn't have significant issues with Hispanics. From the 2006 midterm to 2010 midterm, Hispanics vote for Republicans went from 30% to 39%. Still not strong but they can tap into that demographic in the future outside of Trump and they can get better. There's been plenty of Latino Republican politicans and there will continue to be.

The issue for the Republicans frankly would be if Trump wins. Trump losing would allow the party to easily reject him after this election and revamp themselves for the 2018 midterms.

people keep acting as if the strength of the party relies on the party winning the Presidency. I don't understand why people act as if the Republicans won't control at least one part of Congress after these elections. And as long as they do that they'll be fine.

And Republicans have had this "image" issue of too "white" and not diverse enough for years before Trump and it's still around. This "eventually it will hurt them" is true but also ignorant of the fact that a lot of parts of this country is white and will remain white. The increase in diversity of this country isn't being spread evenly across every state. So even if the Republicans remain a party that appeals mostly to white people, that still can give them a lot of Senate and House seats and potentially even a Presidency if they manage to nominate someone who isn't insane.

you do realize the house seats are gerrymandered. In 2012, democratic candidates got more votes but because of the crazy gerrymandered districts republicans kept the house. Also at midterms the turnout is lower which help republicans as well. In presidential years the democrats have a huge advantage, especially with the demographics.
