I need a new show to watch and I can't choose between these two. Which do you recommend?

Friends is one of the best shows ever, while The Office is just very good, although it's more of a pure comedy that you watch for the laughs. Friends has drama and comedy, with an all-time great cast.

Both are fantastic.

"Friends" is obviously iconic and the cast is flawless. It's easy to watch a ton of episodes in a row too because it's lightweight.

"The Office" is more serialized and goes through a few rough patches, but if you click with the characters you'll stick through it. It also has moments of drama too. The first season of 6 episodes is the weakest of the bunch, and season 2 is arguably the best (I LOVE the final season though - I think it has one of the best sitcom endings ever).

It really just depends on what you're looking for.

Yeah, Friends is one of the best shows ever so that. I've actually been rewatching it on Netflix, it holds up.

I've never finished The Office, idk if I should.

I haven't watched either front to back for real, I tried with the Office once but the early episodes were hard to take

Friends is an OK show. The first season isn't really good though. I caught a few episodes on TV a couple of years ago and it was uncomfortably unfunny. But the show does get better as it goes on.

Never watched a single episode, no. I think if I like Modern Family, I could like The Office.

Oh, you guys are talking about The Office remake. Ugh. That's shit. In that case, DEFINITELY Friends. Simply put, it is one of the best shows ever made. In the top 5 of things to come out of the United States.

I don't know. It's just a thing people say. Other American things that I like are: Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, Larry David, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Moby, McDonald's, Burger King, Subway. Stuff like that. In the broader sense; rock music and movies.

True! My interest petered out after Jam got hitched in Season 6.

I thought "The Office" really redeemed itself in the final year. The worst stretch was the season with James Spader, which was awful.

I feel like "Friends" is more consistent though - there isn't a season I can think of where I don't love most of the episodes.

Cool, it isn't particularly specific then. I think it's not hard to say that the best films, actors, fast food, tv-shows, music are from the US, but it's not like it's surprising or anything either.

No way is the best TV from the US. The best films are. Music? Not that either. The best food isn't either, fast or otherwise.

Well, TV is England. Easy. Music is harder. I prefer European music to American. But not one specific country. If I absolutely had to, then I would choose the UK. And food is even harder. I like lots of different cuisines. I suppose my point with saying that the US doesn't have the best food is that the US hardly has a cuisine of its own. I mean, hot dogs and hamburgers are both German creations. What is American food, really? It's all stolen from elsewhere. And again, I'm English, so the thought of English food is always more appealing to me than anything else.

FWIW I agree regarding American film, music, and food.

TV is probably where you could make the strongest case for the US.
