Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
I don't mind, but at least get what I said correct. I didn't say BvS was a worse film. I'd put them on the same level, and prefer IV because of its earnestness. Another comparable film is Spider-Man 3 (as Lecter has said) and is much more of an apt comparison. I'd also grade it about the same.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
I really like the film but I do think they probably should have someone else polish the JL script. People were so adamant that Chris Terrio would be this panacea just cause he won an Oscar (did all these people really love or even see Argo?) but he obviously wasn't to a lot of people despite him probably the reason for some of the best lines in the film.

Well I don't want to speak like I actually know, but didn't Goyer write most of the BvS script, and Terrio did re-writes? And Terrio is/has written JL1 on his own?

The fact Terrio is credited before Goyer and Goyer doesn't have a "story by" indicates to me that Goyer's draft was pretty much completely tossed, and he's only getting credit because he was the first writer on the project.

When I saw this last night my friends had a ton of shit to say. Some good, some bad, but I was surprised how much they talked as usually it's nothing more than a minute or even just "did you like it?"

Should have kept Andrew Kevin Walker's EPIC BvS fight and awesome final plot twist.

Anton Ego from the movie Ratatouille:
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so"

I was thinking about this some more, and it's actually eerily reminiscent of a scene from a very maligned comic-book film: in Green Lantern, Hal Jordon crashes through a ceiling to save Blake Lively, even though we are given zero indication that he could possibly know she's in danger.

Wonder Woman should feel pretty terrible, right? If she hadn't chopped off Doomsday arm, Superman wouldn't have "died."

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
There is a bit of awful voice-over near the start of this film. If I remember correctly, Bruce even says, "What falls...is fallen."
Indeed, sir. Indeed.

Re: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Had this been a straight up The Dark Knight Returns adaptation it would have been perfect IMO. Unfortunately, it's not and like many have already said it's a mess, but an entertaining film regardless. I just don't understand why critics hated it so much and why it has a lower RT score than the retarded ASM2 which is even more baffling, but I guess Snyder's style is just too much for most and the movie is very dark. However, I think it's a sizable improvement over MOS and that's mostly because of Batfleck. He was fucking awesome and I loved that his version of Batman was so damn brutal and showed no mercy. That intro was creepy as hell and even though the Nightmare sequence was somewhat pointless seeing Batman using guns is something I've always wanted to see and it was pretty badass. Cavill is still a decent Superman, but the dark and brooding stuff needs to change once they get to JL because after two movies it's about time for something different. Amy Adams was definitely better here than in MOS, although I didn't like how she got shoehorned into the climax. Eisenberg was ok acting wise too, but his quirkiness was over the top in certain scenes. Gal Cadot was also great as WW and I can't wait to see more of her in future movies.

Magnus wrote: -I read somewhere that said "Batman is damaged but he's not psychopath." While certain versions of Batman fits this, the idea that the character cannot be treated as a psychopath is wrong. He's a dude that dressed as a bat to avenge his parents death. Of course he can be portrayed as psychotic. My issue isn't that Batman can't be a killer, it's that, when virtually every renowned piece of Batman media of the last 30 years pushes his no kill hard, you have to give a very good reason for why he has headed down this path (A solo Batman film could have done wonders here). It could even have given the final third some more emtional heft, where Superman's sacrifices snap him back to being unwilling to kill. Honestly, I even would have been fine if the only person he killed was the flamethrower thug, since it clearly felt like him or Martha (similar to Batman sacrificing Dent to save the kid in TDK). Quote: -The senate explosion is a devastating scene. The shot of Superman standing in the fire is perfect.
This, along with the moments preceding it (jar of piss!!) are easily my favorite of the movie.

Unsung hero is Lawrence Fish as Perry Black - he killed it!
"CRIME IN GOTHAM..OTHER NEWS...WATER...IS WET" "A Helicopter? We cannot even afford a bicycle!"
There was a Nolan-sized and Nolan-style humor to the film which was very welcome after MOS.
