Re: Fact: Spotlight will win Best Picture
I guess I was wrong there. Still, I can see Spotlight winning. I don't see The Reverant winning BD, of course Spotlight might not either so that man not be the difference maker.

Re: Fact: Spotlight will win Best Picture
Spotlight winning would put it in the same league as Argo or Kings Speech

Re: Fact: Spotlight will win Best Picture
can a quick stat nerd identify an example of a film that won best picture without either best director, best actor or actress/ best supporting actor or actress, or best screenplay? just curious.

Good question. I'm not sure, but I know that the last time a film won Best Picture with only one other Oscar win under it's belt was The Greatest Show on Earth in 1952. That won 'Best Picture and 'Best Story'. Technically, that's not 'Best Screenplay', heh. Are you including Best Screenplay on purpose? 'Cause Spotlight won Best Original Screenplay. Were you interested in seeing if any other films had won Best Picture with even less of a major win as it's second Oscar compared to Spotlight? Peace, Mike

People here were dismissive of Spotlight/ The Big Short having a shot at Best Picture, because each would "only" win Screenplay - whereas The Revenant would win Best Actor. All things equal - taking Best Director out of the equation, since generally Best Director/ Best Picture do not split - is it right for us to view an acting award as more distinctive than a screenplay award - and therefore a better indicator for what might win the grand prize? The acting awards are clearly more celebrated in the public eye... but idk, in terms of what 'means' more to a voter...

I'm really glad Spotlight won. Made for an interesting year. Hopefully Oscars continue like this.

Re: Fact: Spotlight will win Best Picture
This one was a little more likely but still a good call. Though, in hindsight, The Revenant definitely should have won and only lost because Birdman stole Boyhood’s oscar the year before. It was just like when the Cavs drafted Anthony Bennet over Victor Oladipo because they had foolishly picked Dion Waiters, who plays the same position as Dip, in the previous draft.
