I Agree. Hayden is the worst in Clones and Ewan is the most underused in the whole trilogy in Clones. It may be worse than Phantom Menace. But at least Sith has emotion.

I saw all six movies this weekend. You're entitled to your opinion but I think you're completely off in your assessment of both films (ROTJ moreso than ROTS, which does indeed do some things right). ROTJ isn't this massive drop off from ANH and ESB.

It absolutely is. If THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is THE GODFATHER PART II, RETURN OF THE JEDI is CARLITO'S WAY: RISE TO POWER.

You're being tricked by the fact it has those actors and looks like those movies. There are a bunch of people who think HALLOWEEN II isn't shit for this same reason.

The Anakin/Luke story makes up about 20% of RETURN OF THE JEDI.

i think despite some obvious shittyness and laziness rotj is still a fun watch and more pleasing to the eye than the 99% cgi bullshit in aotc/rots. even the short little lightsaber fight in the tattooine desert in tpm, using a real location is 100 times better than anything in those movies, they are ugly and have aged badly.

I also immensely enjoy the Jabba sequence unlike you. And find the Ewoks beating the Empire far more poignant than a joke. It's completely justified that the Empire gets screwed by little furballs.

I mainly just hate the repeat of the Death Star (though Lando kills it so it's not completely bad).

Like I said -- there are people who immensely enjoy HALLOWEEN II because it looks like HALLOWEEN.

RETURN OF THE JEDI is a facsimile of STAR WARS, and not a very good one.

I'm sorry I'm being mean to a bad movie that you like because it has characters you enjoyed in previous movies.

I don't. On my latest series rewatch I'd grade it higher than PHANTOM MENACE and ATTACK OF THE CLONES. But the difference is literally just that I'm already attached to the characters on screen, which bugs me even more -- ROTJ is lazy. That's Harrison Ford. That's supposed to be Han Solo. Yet he's boring.

Given that Han Solo is supposed to evolve to more a responsible leader by ROTJ, he shouldn't be the same rebel.

But he should be something. Harrison Ford looks as engaged as Sean Connery did in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.

There's a reason the cast all thought the script was shit. Read The Making of Return of the Jedi :)

No, the script for JEDI just really is shit. Even the crawl is boring. How do you make the crawl boring??

TDS, regardless of whether or not I agree or disagree with you on this, you really should stop putting out your opinions as solid, immovable facts. That's some Algren-ing right there.

I hate that SW gets away with building an entire plot by using a crawl. If any other movie started their story with "hey, here's some stuff we're not going to show you but DEFINITELY HAPPENED, now watch stuff related to what you just read"

Oh, come on. It's a message board. People who use "in your opinion!" are mad because an argument isn't going their way. Of course it's my opinion. That's common fucking sense.

Algren-ing is being a misogynistic racist; it has nothing to do with what movies he does or doesn't like.

That is true, I also rarely write "in my opinion", but it is still about the way you present your opinion. There is a difference between explaining your point of view and supporting it with a good argumentative thread - which is why I loved reading reviews by Roger Ebert, even when I disagreed with them - and putting it out there like irrefutable facts that if anyone happens to disagree with them, simply has no fucking clue. :)

Now I also do the latter from time to time, but usually only in the cases I actually intend to provoke. :) I don't think you do.

I never got the über-love for Empire Strikes Back, always found A New Hope superior because it feels more "magical2:

Stronger characterization, more mature storyline, and it looks better.

I'd never fault anyone for liking A NEW HOPE more than EMPIRE, though. It's an ALIEN vs. ALIENS scenario. Both are great.

I'm in the camp that loves ANH a bit more. When you think Star Wars, you think....lol Star Wars first.

It's the first magical ride. Sets up everything. Couldn't have Empire without Hope awesome lead in.
