Re: going to New York in a few weeks...
I don't think the shopping is bad. Overpriced of course, but the stores are huge. They are worth exploring even if you don't want to buy anything. M&M World and the Disney Store are aces. I've never even been to the Toys R Us.

I hadn't been to Times Square in years, so I went last week to meet my agent and got there early figuring I could shop around. No Virgin! No book stores. Disney was just toys, no books, and they used to have animated cels and art but no more. I got bored after a short period, went to the hotel where we were to meet, and sat in the lobby reading instead.

It was the best place to shop around and just hang out if you needed to kill time, and I actually remember it doing a ton of cool events and signings all the time. I really think it's a huge loss to that area. I used to spend a ton of time at the one in Union Square too when I was in college and that shut down too. Both have been closed since 2009 or so - the Union Square one is now a Citibank.

It's a quick subway trip. They have a big "Mad Men" exhibit going on through September. The Paley Center is also worth checking out if you love TV. And the Discovery Center in Times Square has a big Hunger Games exhibit going through the end of the year. And then obviously the staples like the MoMa, Guggenheim and the Met if you've never been before. The 9/11 Museum downtown is a big one as well.

I just went to the Whitney museum, that was a lot of fun, it's near the south entrance to the high line too, and a lot of good restaurants in the area too.
Search online when you're here, there's always some great small shows or concerts, old movies or temporary art exhibits.

I think I’m going here on my birthday on June 26th to go to Harry Potter New York. Any other entertainment recommendations since Broadway is closed till September?

Jacob’s Pickles. Best chicken ever. And its close to the natural history museum so you can go there after lunch to walk off all the calories.
