I've never been so disappointed and disgusted by a show in a long time. Not disgusted by any gross humor. Just disgusted that a talented and hilarious stand up like John Mulaney could write one of the worst sitcoms I've ever seen.
-The actors are awful. Guys like Martin Short and Elliott Gould should elevate bad material. Gould should be fun playing against type as the gay neighbour, but his minute-long scene in the pilot bordered on offensive, while Short takes all of his worst qualities as a comedian and dials them to 100.
-The writing is terrible. Half of the pilot's scenes are derived from John's stand up, which never ever works. Seinfeld didn't rely on Jerry's own material as fodder for the show. Drew Carey tried the same early on for his show but quickly moved away from it. Seeing John Mulaney's infamous prostate exam acted out only tarnished the near-perfect routine he does on stage.
-The biggest offense is the Seinfeld comparisons it gets. After reading about it, I figured it would basically amount to being like Seinfeld in that Mulaney is a comedian, his best friends are a kooky male and attractive (possibly ex-girlfriend?) female and it's a sitcom. No, it's basically an-episode-about-masturbation-away from ripping it off completely. Even if I knew how badly it would mimic Seinfeld, I would've assumed it could still be good.
But no, it's definitely the worst show I've seen in a while, and definitely in the running for worst show of the last 15 years. It is only saved by the stand-up segments, which it, of course, shamelessly stole from Seinfeld.
I don't know if this should be a thread about Mulaney or a thread asking what's the worst show of the last 15 years.

That's basically an "America, Fuck Yeah" opening.

Well always looking shit is beside the point. I know writing standup and writing a sitcom are two different things, but it's hard to believe someone as funny as John could think this was even remotely funny. It's all the more embarrassing that he writes the show.
The only reasonable excuse is that FOX is ordering the show to be a bad Seinfeld clone.
I'm a Martin Short fan... but the previews made him look annoying. So I passed.
Martin Short can jump back and forth over a line between comedy gold and dreadfully unfunny, possibly at will, and he's permanently unfunny here. Too bad because he could make the show if given a better character.

It was actually supposed to be on NBC. They passed on it and then FOX accepted.
But it's not like this is the exact same show that NBC passed on. It could've been a completely different show on NBC, though given what they've OK'd in recent years, I can't imagine how bad it was for them to pass.

I did look truly awful. I never heard of Mulaney but seeing him attempt a Seinfeld (Putting routines in is truly pitiful) is laughable. Clips I've seen are some of the worst written stuff I've seen in a while.
I approve the title of this thread. Other terrible shows this one can proudly sit along:
The MIchael Richards Show, Bob Patterson, Viva Laughlin, Joey, and Shasta McNasty

Though MTV should have it's special award. Yo Mama may have been the dumbest fucking show in the history of Earth.
And then all the terrible Room Raider's spinoffs like Date My Mom, Exposed, etc.

I dunno, I found Jonah From Tonga to be pretty dreadful. Especially so with the HBO "pedigree."

Re: The worst show of the 2000s has to be...
I finally watched the first two episodes. It wasn't downright atrocious but it is definitely surprising that Mulaney is a part of something so mediocre/below his usual greatness. Though honestly if they cut Martin Short's character out, the show would be a lot better.
Well that's for starters. It feels like someone said "This is just too much like a really cheap Seinfeld, so let's throw in Martin Short and Mulaney works for him. Ta-da!"
But there's way too much that would need to change. It's all moot anyway. Ratings are atrocious. The people have spoken.
