Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
AGENTS OF SHIELD received great preview reactions, too. I actually have the pilot but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. (To be fair, the quick bits I previewed -- at least from a production standpoint -- looked much better than AGENTS OF SHIELD.)

But TDS said the writing is awful. How could that be? HOW?

Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
It's written like a TV show, because that's what it is. Anyone expecting a Nolan-quality script is kidding themselves. But the performances are all strong especially the guy who plays the Penguin and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Ben McKenzie is a likable lead. Also it has some awesome visuals. I see a lot of potential.

Chippy wrote: But TDS said the writing is awful. How could that be? HOW? Because the writing is awful. I'm watching it right now. Gordon gets introduced at least twice in every scene ("I'm Jim Gordon" -- WE KNOW). All of the mythology shout-outs are embarrassing ("No more riddles, Nygma!", Oswald's called Penguin in his first scene, Bruce climbs to the mansion roof and is "learning to conquer fear"). Bland exposition everywhere. All of the scenes from the script -- the ones that could easily be re-written according to you guys -- are intact and unchanged. A lot of it kind of works, though. It looks great. I'm not sure what show Donal Logue thinks he's on but he's fun. Young Penguin is a blast. It's also surprisingly violent. Lots of blood when Bruce's parents are killed. No idea if I'm seeing the same cut thompsoncory did. My screener is 49 minutes long and temp scored (speaking of Nolan, the last Gordon/Bruce scene was tracked from INCEPTION).

Reading comprehension wasn't your strongest subject in school, was it? Quote: A lot of it kind of works, though. It looks great. I'm not sure what show Donal Logue thinks he's on but he's fun. Young Penguin is a blast. Tell me, Brian -- do you actually get emotionally upset when someone doesn't drool over whichever corporate product you've chosen to be loyal toward?

And the Penguin guy is easily going to be the breakout character from this show.

Nygma as the generic tech/evidence guy could be a lot of fun going forward.

Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
Netflix bought the rights for this yesterday for $1.75 million an episode (just under the deal they made for Blacklist) before a single episode has aired. Can we already consider this a lock for season 2?

Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
Pretty much. If Agents of SHIELD got a second season despite how embarrassing its ratings have become at the end of the season for such a high profile show, then Gotham should get one too no matter how it does.

I only wish that AMC, FX and HBO will go the route of ditching cable tv and having subscription only basis through the internet like Netflix. HBOGo doesn't count since you still need to login your cable subscriber address. That way I can finally drop cable tv

Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
I'm curious what the ratings will be like on Monday. Fox is in a slump, but GOTHAM feels like the type of show that's going to open very, very well.

So far critics seem to like it, I guess it will open well

Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
I believe it will be good but below 10 million. Which I think would be a major disappointment. Agents of SHIELD premiered to only 12 million, and that was the benefit of a very active multi-film franchise to support it and a storyline immersed in said franchise.
On the other end, perhaps a show set in the Marvel Universe but not featuring any of the noteworthy characters (save a few cameos) was never destined to be huge, whereas Gotham's appeal may be its setting. Honestly I'm less excited to see the usual suspects in Penguin and The Riddler and more excited to see where the show itself goes.

Re: GOTHAM CITY TV Series Thread
Probably will do 9-10 million for the pilot and drop down to 6 million viewers in the next 4 episodes. Fox is in a slump and never does well with genre shows except for X-files
