The Last Stand will open on 24th October, and Escape Plan will open on 29th October. In December, a Dolph Lundgren film will open. Talk about crazy! China is becoming brilliant.

Updated release schedule for upcoming foreign movies:
Oct 24: The Last Stand
Nov 04: Escape Plan Nov 08: Thor: The Dark World Nov 20: Gravity Nov ??: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
I will see Gravity in IMAX. There's one nearby, but I haven't seen a movie there yet. I think this is the one to see there. I will try and not waste my money on Catching Fire. I'll see Thor 2, probably, and I'll see The Last Stand again in cinemas as it is a good film. I'll see Escape Plan half-a-dozen times.
Bring on December. I am looking forward (although I don't know why because his last movie, CZ12, was awful) to Jackie chan's latest Police Story installment, Police Story 2013, coming out on 24th December. Hopefully this is a serious action thriller. If it is, we'll have no problems. No foreign movies are scheduled for December yet. Probably Catching Fire will be pushed to December, but also I feel the quota is used up, so perhaps only local product will be shown.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
Around 14M over the 5-day (5.4M from weekdays, 8.5 or so from the weekend). Very average (or even poor compared to the other countries), although good for a Disney cartoon (they have never passed the 10M mark). The rest of its run will depend on how it will hold its screens against the bunch of local films released on VD. It can go everywhere from 20M to 35M I guess.
Despicable Movie 2 finished its run with around 330M yuan, meaning around 52/53M.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
DM2 will miss the $1b mark by $30m...close but no cigars. I don't think it could have done much better in China if not for the release problems.
Frozen is doing fine I guess compared to the past Disney movies.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
China is such a stupid fucking market. I mean, everywhere I look I see posters for Edge of Tomorrow still. It's 2 days before Transformers: Age of Extinction opens. We all know how unbelievably huge Transformers: Dark of the Moon was, so why not market the hell out of the fourth movie as well?
I am sure there will be posters for it...when it opens - or maybe a week after sometime, when they can be bothered. But that's not how marketing works! In the UK, we have marketing for films about 2 months in advance (for blockbusters), then in the week prior, we up the ante and have TV spots and everything. If it's a big tie-in film, McDonald's will do their meals about 4 weeks prior to the film opening.
China is so retarded. It has no clue how to maximise potential. I swear it just thinks "last one made us loads, this one will too". Knowing how greedy China is, I am surprised to see this lax attitude from the marketing department of the Chinese distributor.
So far, the only way people know it's coming is if a) they check movie sites or b) if they attend the cinema and have seen the trailer that might have played at one screening or may not have. In Hong Kong, for example, the trailer has probably been playing in tube stations for weeks, posters are splashed everywhere etc. etc.
China is shit.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
The Company You Keep opens on Tuesday (8th July), and then no foreign movies will open until after 1st August. This might be a good schedule for The Expendables 3 which opens in mid-August (around 15th), although I cannot say for sure as I don't know the other movies being released around that time. I assume that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will also be released at that time as the Chinese government insist on trying to fuck foreign movies in the ass.
I don't expect Sin City: A Dame to Kill For to get released at all. So it looks like I'll be going to Hong Kong for that.

I am surprised The Company You Keep of all films is receiving a Chinese theatrical release.

 Re: China Box Office (Skyfall)
I'm glad it is. I've been wanting to see it for a long time. Also just released is American Hustle. Every year, older films like these get a theatrical release here in China. It's nice if I can catch them.

Extremely doubtful, but that is more the type of film that people here would like. If it did, I'd go and see it.

 Re: China Box Office
Once again the Chinese government makes it near impossible for foreign releases to make any good money. I mean, foreign releases usually perform well in spite of the government trying to fuck things up, but just imagine how well they could perform if given space to breathe.
01 Aug: Brick Mansions 14 Aug: How to Train Your Dragon 2 14 Aug: Tarzan 3D 15 Aug: Pompeii 3D 20 Aug: The Expendables 3
Three big movies for kids, and all in 3D, released with 24hrs of each other. Then 5 days later, The Expendables 3 is released and it will wipe them all out, I guess. And Brick Mansions getting a release is one of the weirdest releases in China this year (along with The Company You Keep).

The Expendables 3 - $17m from 3 days. The Expendables 2 - $53m from 28 days. The Expendables - $34m from 28 days. TE3 is a hit

 Re: China Box Office
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=123207The trailer for John Woo's The Crossing. By the looks of it, if it gets a holiday or prominent release date, I can see it being HUGE. It has Zhang Ziyi and a popular Asian hunk in top roles, and it's about war (which is hot right now) and history (which the Chinese adore) and it is directed by a hugely famous director. It'll make more than Iron Man 3 for sure.
