I have to say unlike movies and music, most tv shows suck ass pre-2000. Still though lots of entries here doesn't make sense. X-files being 20 notches below Lost? Dawson Creek on the freaking list? Game of Thrones being ranked so low when it should at least be in the top 40.

Grey's Anatomy. WHY.

Not a terrible list. TV show lists are always tough to do.

The damn Simpsons ahead of 'Seinfeld'???!? Yeah, riiiiight.

'M*A*S*H' and 'Cheers' outside the top 10??!? Whatever.

'Married....With Children', 'Dark Shadows' and 'The Avengers' nowhere to be found. :disgust:

I agree with Magnus about current shows being included. This is just another bullshit list, to me.

Post Re: Entertainment Weekly's 100 greatest tv shows of all time
I think Entertainment Weekly in general has always been a huge "Lost" supporter. I know it has its detractors for the later seasons, but quite a few people LOVE all of it (myself included) and I always remember them being very positive about it throughout its run.

Also, "Grey's Anatomy" when it was great (and it actually is still quite a decent show considering how long its been on) was REALLY GREAT. It has gone through its ups and downs but season 2 is still one of the best seasons of TV I've seen, and it has had some excellent episodes since then (the shooting episode in season 6 being the prime example). I think its inclusion is merited.

The list seems to be a mix of shows that are actually renowned for their quality and also ones that just had a major impact on pop culture as a whole ("Dawson's Creek" was probably included for this reason).

I have no objections with current shows being in the list. I didn't see anyone complain about Breaking Bad and Mad Men being on the list even though they haven't finished their run. Twin Peaks, My So Called Life and Freaks & Geeks never got to finish their run either because of cancellation.

I have no issue with 'Breaking Bad' being included, it only has 8 episodes left. My problem is: it should be alot freaking higher, like top 5.

'Mad Men' should be left off, 'The Walking Dead' and 'American Horror Story' both were.

BB and Mad Men are included in my protest.

also, the difference with cancelled shows is that they're never coming back and there's nothing left thats going to change. Mad Men and BB and others have more episodes left that can make the show better or worse.

Would it be okay to rank films without seeing the last act? Or rank albums without hearing the second half? Then why is it okay to rank TV shows without seeing the finished product.

It's EW's 100 Greatest Shows Of All Time, not EW's 100 Greatest Shows of All Time Never to Be Disputed, Re-Examined, Re-Written or Looked At Again to Ever Change Any Placement for Any Programs, New or Old, No Matter How Awful Any Current Shows End... That Is, Until We Do the Next 100 Greatest Shows of All Time List in 2014.

Technically I think they are still applying that same logic to those shows. Simpsons from 2000 to present would have docked the show a couple of notches down as it did to X-files. Yet how come Lost, ER and like I said Simpsons remain unscathed while I'm sure that the downward spiral angle applies to 24 and X-files that affected their standings.

Wouldn't be the first list. Like, The Simpsons is easily at least one of the Top 5 acclaimed TV comedies ever, however funny it is to realize that only 25% of its run has been that good.

If you consider The Simpsons than ran from 1989-1999 and The Simpsons from 2000 to now (in my opinion, the quality noticeably dropped off at the end of season 10 or 11 and never quite recovered) as different shows, the earlier version is deserving of a top 5 placement.

I haven't watched The Simpsons regularly, like, since then. I really want to go back and watch the first 10 or so seasons over again, though. In its prime it was such an amazing show.

My top 2 shows of all times were Seinfeld and I Love Lucy.

As for this list, I really need to check out the Wire and see what the fuss was about.
