Post Behind the Candelabra
Steven Soderbergh's new Liberace movie (starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon) premieres on HBO this Sunday at 9 pm. It's tipped to be Soderbergh's final film, but we'll see if he holds true to that.

The reviews are stellar so far. Will probably dominate all the Emmy categories it's eligible in.

Should have been a theatrical release. I'll rent it on Blu-ray.

Apparently most studios turned it down for being "too gay".

I am interesting to see how it will perform ratings-wise. I expect big things.

I read that too. But I mean come on. It's Liberace. I'm pretty sure people know it's going to be pretty gay ;). With the talent involved and good reviews it's just surprising nobody would have wanted to release it theatrically. I'm sure it could have done decent business with award nominations (I don't imagine it would have been too difficult to get those). I think it could have pulled around Milk numbers.

So this was pretty great. Douglas and Damon were just terrific.

Watched by 2.4 million viewers on Sunday, the highest ratings for an HBO original movie since Something the Lord Made on May 30, 2004.

It actually went beyond 3 Million the first night.

Across two plays Sunday, Candelabra had a total of 3.5 million viewers watching the 9 PM and 11 PM broadcasts.

I do wish HBO would make more miniseries like Band of Brothers, Pacific and John Adams. Quite true that those cost 100 million to make but it extends their existing library and does killer sales on dvd/bluray

I experienced the opportunity to watch this last night and it was very well-written. Matt Damon was very good in it! :)

Just finished watching this a bit ago and it was fantastic. It is a total shame it wasn't given a theatrical release.

I thought the performances were great, but the story fell a little flat for me. There was something missing. Enjoyable, but, empty.
