Re: China Box Office (TDKR & TASM - 8/27)
Yeah, TASM is 3D only.
By 2pm local time, TDKR has narrowed the gap to around 20%. The attendance rate hasn't improved much for either though. Looking at an average first day.

Personally I feel that Spider-Man is more popular in China than Batman. It's more of a commercial character and it attracts the family audience more. At the schools I've worked in, for example, I have seen kids stationary covered in Spider-Man, and they act as him when playing together, but I can't say the same for Batman. Maybe Batman is more mature, especially this Nolan series, and it doesn't connect with kids so much. I think we will see that in the numbers for the first week, and if we don't, then I'm lost for words.

Re: China Box Office (TDKR & TASM - 8/27)
My local cinema has 12 showings per day of TASM. Only 7 or 8 for TDKR. TASM's tickets are 100 yuan on the first day, TDKR's are 80 yuan. For the second day (and I assume all weekdays from now on), TASM's tickets are 50yuan, TDKR's are 40yuan. This is surprising because films like The Lincoln Lawyer, the tickets were 70-100 yuan all the time. Weird. My local cinema is a big popular one too in the 3rd or 4th largest city in China, not some small cinema in a small city.

TDKR continued to close the gap at night and now trails TASM by less than 10% with an hour or so to go. The admissions are basically dead even.

So looks like $5.4m for TASM and $4.4m for TDKR. Not all that great.

Re: China Box Office (TDKR & TASM - 8/27)
That's only one day, though. That is pretty good. If you have a whole week of those figures, the opening week will be very good. I think expectations of hundreds of million were overpredicted kind of silly really especially when Batman and Spider-Man movies have never done that well before.

With deciding a release so soon, this doesn't give them long for promotion. Prometheus has had some time for marketing and awareness. I just hope that having the first one come out here will be all the promotion it needs. Have yet to see any posters. I will be checking today in the cinema to see what they got.

Re: China Box Office (TDKR & TASM - 8/27)
Well it opens on a Tuesday, so the opening weekend will be muted, but the opening week should be nice. Anywhere around the $15m-$17m mark for opening 6 days will be "monster" for me, because then it only needs a multiplier of 2 to beat TE1's total. I know that might be lowballing for a 6-day opening, but I've never thought of The Expendables as a blockbuster, just a hit, so I'm not expecting big big big numbers for China - just enough to take down TE1.
They've also not had too long to market TE2. I hope this won't take away from the buzz.

Ok. I'll take that. Well over $300m in that case.

China really pissed me off with their crazy release schedule, they have successfully destroyed TDKR and TASM grosses in China and massively dented both of their OS performances.
Bet Chinese Film Group/SARFT are having a huge party soon....

Well, Nikki is obviously wrong. Looper only made 1.73m on Saturday.
