Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
With the surprisingly high number of bad reviews it's getting, looks like the Best Picture oscar is gone.

That was anyway a remote possibility. Are there any other bad reviews beyond those listed at RT. I dont see 6 as high number.

6 out of 38. I'm assuming the % is gonna stay about the same. So in the end it's gonna have quite a few more bad reviews than TDK. And TDK didn't even get nominated for best picture.

TDK was during the 5-nomination system, though. TDKR can still make it in. After all, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close had 47% RT and got nominated.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
Yeah but TDKR is a superhero movie. And it doesn't come out in the Oscar season. It starts off with massive disadvantages; it would have needed very good reviews.
Then again, the 10-movie nomination process is probably going to give it a nomination for BP.
The bad reviews might be due to more than just the reviews not liking the film. I just read one that refers to "Nolan's ego". Obviously the reviewer is not being objective.

Not only that, but expectations are sky high. I'm sure even reviewers are caught up in the hype if it's not exactly perfect.

The average rating is very high. Nothing to worry about.

I'm thinking some of the backlash that TDK recieved has something to do with it aswell. All those critics who thought TDK was the most overrated movie of all time and got shitted on by the fanboys are coming out in full force this time. Devin Faraci's review is the most obvious example. The man has been bashing TDKR for over a year now and he also didn't have that much praise for TDK either.

Except that you can't possibly compare the two. EL&IC got in because it was the sole entry in the Best Picture race from Warner Bros. It was pushed by actors and executives.

Pre-release research shows director Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie is exceeding mega-hits "The Avengers," "The Hunger Games" and the final "Harry Potter" film in the critical "first choice" category that studios use to gauge moviegoers' interest in their upcoming releases.
As a result, "The Dark Knight Rises" is expected to generate more than $180 million in ticket sales this weekend, according to people who have seen the data but are not authorized to speak publicly. It even has a chance, these people said, of beating the $207-million opening weekend record set by "The Avengers" in May.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is among the all-time highest scoring movies in "tracking" just days before it launches. The percentage of potential moviegoers who list the picture as their first choice among upcoming releases is six points higher than that of "The Avengers" on the Monday before it opened, and seven points higher than "Hunger Games." Holy shit. Now that's good news. The way they speak of that $180M number makes it sound like $180M is the minimum it's going to make this weekend unless a meteorite falls in the center of the US. But we already knew that.

http://pinterest.com/pin/268667933991054761/194.5M They don't account for IMAX/Other so factor that in and we're at just under 210M. Been trending upwards the last few updates.

200m is way too high imo.
Especially since its not family friendly, 4-quadrant, or 3D.

Especially since its not family friendly, 4-quadrant, or 3D. It is family friendly, very much 4 quadrant, all statistics make such quite obvious, and fuck 3D when it's not a JC film.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
I am sorry I can't agree on this being family friendly but to say that it does not have 4-quadrant is wrong. 3D doesn't always mean bigger totals or weekends so that is a moot point.

It's a one quadrant movie. TDKR is strictly targeted at 15-34 year old boys - - of course, that's a huge market - - the one that drives the film industry nowadays.

Yeah, but the number of quadrants depends on the time zone you live in.
