Post Emmy Nominations 2012
Four days people!

A few quick thoughts as of today:
-All the pundits are suggesting Boardwalk Empire is the odd man out in the 7-way Best Drama Race. I think they're wrong and Game of Thrones gets skunked instead
-I think Anna Gunn is gonna get snubbed again
-And, No Guts No Glory--Nomination for Jessica Pare!

And Tom O'Neil makes a compelling case for Smash showing up all over the place...which would be hilarious and stupid

...i kinda hope it happens

If Smash gets nominated for anything other than (MAYBE) Megan Hilty and Christian Borle, I'll throw things. I don't think it will though.

I agree Anna Gunn will be snubbed which is unfortunate, her performance is very underrated.

Is it too much to hope for some attention for Happy Endings? Probably.

Yes, its too much. And first in line for a nomination from Smash in Anjelica Huston, sad as that is

Max Greenfield has a really good shot, actually. Debra Messing is a long-shot, for sure but I totally see it happening.

Max Greenfield SHOULD be happening.

I love Debra Messing but her character was much of what was wrong with season 1 of Smash, so I sincerely hope not.

Will the Emmys actually nominate Nick Offerman? He's been overlooked too much so far, especially against the MFers.

I just watched it and have never finished a show so quickly. Are there really five better dramas -- and if so, what? Pls don't say Game of Thrones. I have zero interest.

Also, why not Ron Swanson? I think he'd get a nom for being everyone's favorite part about Parks in its most popular (er...acclaimed. or noticed) season yet.

Also, Curb definitely deserves Best Comedy.

Over Parks, 30 Rock, Happy Endings, and certainly over New Girl, Big Bang Theory, Glee, or Modern Family

If it was up to me Drama Series would be....

Mad Men
Boardwalk Empire
Game of Thrones
Revenge
Breaking Bad
Homeland

Have'nt seen the last two but I expect that I'd like them. Boardwalk better be nominated, Season 2 was stunning. Mad Men deserves to win more than ever (S5 was so much better than S4). Revenge wont make it but its probably the most addictive of all the shows (and had cable not been so strong these days, would be a lock).

Oh and American Horror Story for Mini-Series!

I agree. Even if it is a primetime soap opera type of show, it's still exceptional.

Nick Offerman has been snubbed three years running now. Even if one actor from MF missed out, that's only three available spots. But he does deserve it.

Revenge would probably have a shot at a Drama Series nomination if a) its competition weren't so intense and b) it wasn't a soap on ABC. Grey's Anatomy did get nominated a couple of times but that was at the height of its culture zeitgeist with not as many acclaimed dramas on the air. No matter, though, I still adore it. REVENGEEEEEEEEE.

The Good Wife will yet again be the only network drama to yield a nomination, I believe. If it were up to me, Parenthood would also be nominated as another example of a superb network drama. But it won't.

I'm predicting TGW, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Homeland, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey in Drama, with Boardwalk Empire missing out.

I guess it depends who you ask. I thought season 3 was exquisite as usual.

Revenge has a chance next year if ATAS moves to 10 nominations for Drama and Comedy Series.

The Good Wife will get in as it will represent the only network show in the category. It missing will be a death knell.

Messing is a bit of a NGNG pick but she's been nominated six times before and won once. They like her.

Nick Offerman gets in on the strength of him announcing the nominations. It's a pretty good bet that one of the announcers gets in and it's not going to be Kerry Washington lol.

If TGW wasn't a CBS show I think we would be talking about it winning the whole damn thing. I have no idea why there's like 0 buzz for it. It's amazing.

No Smash acting nominations pls. Anjelica Huston might be the only one worth it, but still no.

Revenge won't get in. It's good, not great, more of a guilty pleasure. And nowhere near to DH's first season when people and the awards went crazy for that one. It doesn't even have strong acting to support the show, while all four DH ladies were top notch and supporting actors were quite often surprisingly great as well.

Does Downton Abbey even qualify for Drama series with 7-8 episodes? Luther (another amazing UK show) was under Mini Series with its 6 episodes (despite the show getting second season, and now even getting an order for season 3). How many episodes do you need to be a series and not mini series?

It's not how many episodes, it's how you're submitted. Drama Series tapes only submit 6 episodes post-nomination so that's all you need.

The reason DA was in Miniseries for its first season was because at the time there was no intent on continuing it. Since they did they had to move over to Drama Series.

Some things, like American Horror Story, can reserve the right to submit in either. Kathryn Joosten had it in her contract that allowed her to submit in either Guest or Supporting, depending on where she thought she stood the best chance.

I believe they said 8 episodes. Its weird that drama series like American Horror Story and Luck are trying for miniseries instead. Im sure they will some rules regarding that in the future else shows like Newsroom would try to qualify for that category because of it having less competition there

For example, Political Animals is only 6 episodes. If it gets renewed (which is only a maybe) it will have to be a Series. If not, I'm pretty sure they'll have the choice of submitting for either.
