I saw it the day it hit video and despised it. I was a lot younger then though. Watched it a couple years later and thought it was "better" but I still didn't like it. I'll probably give it another watch someday. Might actually get more out of it now.

I saw this movie opening weekend during a vacation to Disney World, lol. Memorable theatrical experience.

It's great and holds up over time. Bale in top form, very funny and creepy, etc.

I prefer the film to the book.

I bought this blu-ray 'cause it was only $5 a while ago and watched it tonight; really liked it. The best I've seen from Christian Bale. Kind of want to read the book now.

I just watched this again. It never gets boring. Such crisp dialogue, great acting by Bale, and probably the most stylish horror/thriller/killer movie I've ever seen - it sort of glamourises murder, which I'm against, but it's hard to dislike Bateman in this movie. I think the guy's a awesome yuppie. His music references are hilarious. Once again, Bale doesn't hold back on the acting.

^My #1 most hated phrase.

People say it to sound intellectual.

I don't know what an intellectual sounds like but i enjoy Robbe-Grillet trashing de Beauvoir's facial expressions.

There are a few great individual scenes in this, mostly thanks to Christian Bale’s ability to talk about music and instruct hookers at the same time. I didn’t think it added up to much of anything though. I guess it could be a look into what it costs yourself to be in the business world? I never saw it as a satire though. In retrospect I can see how some parts can play as funny- Bale being indecisive about how he should kill his secretary or manicly running around with a chainsaw. Whether intentionally or not, the movie made me care more about the secretary and hooker though, so it always came off as a horror movie. Labeling it a satire seems more like a way to justify getting off on the violence, the author covering their own ass should label them an American Psycho.

I was out on Patrick as soon as he killed the dog. And I think you need to be on his side to enjoy this movie. I will give it dues for being well made, acted and atleast trying to do something big. But the poor writing fells it in the end.

I rewatched this for the first time in a long time. What a masterpiece and while it sounds cliche, i'll still say it ''films were really better before''. This is another film made in that peak late 90's time that are so well crafted, feature excellent performances and just leave an impact. How well cast is Bale, what an excellent shape he put himself in and it rightly gave him a start to become some of the premier actors of the last 25 years. The film is haunting, it's cruel, gripping, there's a darkly comedic layer to it, hardly noticeable due the deadly serious events it covers, but just present enough to allow the film to be very rewatchable. It has a great 80's setting, the art direction and score are sublime, a perfect effort from director Mary Herron. And they put a great cast together, from Dafoe to Witherspoon as well as Leto, Theroux and Sage as finance bros. I didn't realize I probably underestimated the film before, but maybe because it felt reduced through how it's cultural relevance increased to just clips and memes of the film. But through Bale's performance and the overall make of this film it's definitely one of the best ever.
