It's possible Inception overtook it at some point, but if it did, The Dark Knight will overtake it again with the release of Rises coming up. Damn, it's had incredible legs on Blu-ray compared to where it started. I want to say it only sold around 1 million in its first week and that of course was huge at the time, but that's nothing compared to new releases in recent years. IM2 sold 4.5 million in 2010 for instance. So that gives you an idea of the kind of legs TDK has had to start at a million and just keep selling like a motherfucker, haha. Inception was around 2.7 million in its first week for comparison. It has had pretty damn good legs too I bet.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
I went to a family reunion this past weekend. There were over 100 people related to me. I talked to various members of my family and tried to gauge their interest in TDKR as surreptiously as possible without seeming like a nut. I probably failed.
Out of 12 people I talked to about movies:
2 Saw The Avengers 2 Saw The Hunger Games 4 Saw The Avengers and The Hunger Games 4 Had not seen a movie in a theater this year- 1 Last movie Tron Legacy 1 Last movie Inception 1 Last movie Avatar 1 Last movie POTC: The Curse of the Black Pearl
All 12 were going to see TDKR in theaters. I don't have the exact numbers due to the fact I didn't ask all 12, but I would estimate 6 were going to see it OW and 6 were going to wait until the crowds died down. All of the people that had not seen a movie this year were waiters.
I self-selected and eliminated moviegoers that will not see a SH film. I may have somehow tainted the responses but most of the time they brought up TDKR without any prompting from me.
3 people were not interested in The Amazing Spider-Man and all had seen the previous films. They thought it was too soon. The other 9 did not mention it, so perhaps those three were not indictive of the sample group's overall interest.
It is not scientific, and I have no idea what it means. However, I was impressed, and I think it means something.

I know the word 'epic' gets thrown around a lot these days, but there's just no other way to describe that trailer.
Movie of the summer, its coming, 1 month, move over Avengers & Spider-Boy.

Remember when DH2 and TA opened, the past films were the top downloaded films online... True, but those were huge sellers just a week or 2 previous to their release, TDK and BB are being huge more than 7 weeks before TDKR...

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
After a discussion about the marketing on The Dark Knight vs. Rises, I watched some old trailers, and I think there might be a factor here that I haven't really seen anyone mention: this will likely have more female appeal than The Dark Knight. Catwoman is an infinitely more powerful female character than Rachel Dawes. Also, trailer 3 showed Bruce kissing Marion's character, which is a more intimate moment than anything in The Dark Knight trailers.

Ledger and his death brought in a pretty big female audience for TDK. In fact, I would say females showing up in much bigger numbers than anyone might expect is the little secret that helped push it to such a huge total.

It's just something that I've seen a lot of people ignore over the years, especially when they start saying TDK didn't have a "true" 4-quad audience. That can't be true based on the exit polls and the sheer amount of money it made.

50/50 gender split for Batman? Nolan's dark Batman? Hardly. Sounds like a crock of shit. If I were to guess I'd say probably more like 80/20 towards males.

From BoxOfficeMojo - Warner Bros' research indicated that 52 percent of the audience was male and that there was an even split between those over and under 25 years old. Link - http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2504&p=.htmAs you can see TDK had VERY heavy female appeal. I don't expect as much for TDKR, but it will definitely have more appeal than TA or most male oriented blockbusters.

LMAO, Batman is the king of OW BO, and he has the record set 4 times to prove it, that requires four quadrant domination yo.

Still a huge ass movie. BB and TDK doing well on home video is just proof that they have strong WOM, which has been obvious for years.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises OW Record Club of Tickets Now on S
I am fully aware of TDK's breakdown; I was talking more along of the lines of possibly getting a demographic breakdown that favors women slightly. That's something that's never happened for a big comic book film (or maybe any comic book film) that we have such data on. And like I brought up, Catwoman has been a focus of the marketing more so than any comic book female since... well, probably Batman Returns, heh.

Apparently the new Spidey movie is aimed at the Twilight audience, so that one will likely set a new record for percentage of females in attendance.

I assume you're joking about that one review, but if it's actually a superhero film for the Twilight crowd, then that's a damn shame the marketing hasn't been reflective of that. Which, of course, is my point about Catwoman.
