BTW, Iron Man 2 didn't do that bad in China with a $25m total. I'm thinking $80m with The Avengers.

Iron Man 3, co-procued with China and starring Andy Lau will probably be humongous next year. $100+ million for sure.

So The Avenge is looking at a possible $150m+ total in China as well. Incredible start. I was one of the more bullish persons for it's prospect there, but this is stunning.

At least 150m, possibly 200m then. :funny:

I might have found a correlation between HK-China for Hollywood films. Whatever HK makes, the film's gross in China will be 10-20x that.

Good theory to test out with Amazing Spider-Man, The Dark Knight Rises, and other movies out this summer.

That's...kinda incredible.

Also, China has approved the releasing of Hunger Games. Should be in the first half of June.

So it makes $10m in HK it's going to make $100-$200m in China? That helps... :P

There was the word "actual" to NOT get that $17m in 2 days. I have seen in all the articles about that $17.4m opening in China but generally all of them have major discrepancy from the actuals.

The Chinese must have been starving for more Titanic. It's just amazing the run it's producing.

$19m for The Avengers, and Titanic dropped only 20% with the help of May Day holiday.

Sure but to clarify - not that someone thinks it's continuing making money - with the arrival of Avengers, it pretty much died, weekend was paltry. I guess, it lost most of its screens.

213m yuan, or $33.8m, second week for The Avengers. The total stands at $52.8m after 9 days.

And looks like Titanic 3D will fall a little short of 1b yuan and will finish around $155m.

Hmm, so even combined with its original release gross Titanic will fall short of Avatar's gross?

Hi Xia,
Can you confirm status of Spidey reboot and TDKR in China. Chinese folks @ BO.com forums are saying Sept for Spidey and TDKR is cancelled? I wonder why chinese govt want no major hollywood release in summer.

Economic inequality seems to be one of the themes of TDKR. A touchy subject for the supposedly communist China.

Hollywood films have been cleaning up for several months now with Titanic, Battleship, Avengers, MIB3, Snow White, Madagascar 3, and now The Hunger Games (with Hugo getting a release in the middle as well), so there could be a sentiment that they want to keep Jul/Aug more open to the domestic releases.

That is ok. it makes sense to have some windows dedicated to local films.

But does that mean we will see spidey/tdkr in september or they wont allow these films at all.

The latest news I got is that TDKR will be released on 9/2, 3 days after TASM. If that's the case, Spider-Man could be in trouble.

They're both doomed being released 2 months after their theatrical debut. China is one of the biggest bootlegging markets. The later release date is a killer. Both movies will be bootlegged to hell and back by the time they come out in China.
