Nolan vs Marvel:

2008:

Iron Man broke up every expectation and had an amazing performance, but in July of the same year it was eclipsed by TDK, when it got the biggest O.W. of all time, and to be fair, at that time nobody remembered or cared about what Iron Man did 2 months ago


2010:

Iron Man 2 was overstimated, some people predicted it as high as 160m on O.W., but the film not only sucked, it also didn't reach the popularity and love that Inception got 2 months later, and to be fair let me remind you that Inception outgrossed Iron Man 2 WW and it sold more DVDs/Blu-rays..................................... and became a classic

2012

People are getting crazy for The Avengers' performance beacuse without a doubt it's impressive, but history is there, and Nolanfans, batfans, fanboys or whatever you wanna call us, will be there to demonstrate one more time what our all-time favorite superhero can do


In conclusion, marvel cant go against Nolan

250m O.W., and neither Avatar 2 nor Avengers 2 will get there

if TDKR was 3D I could go maybe.

Still a huge OW number. TDKR I think can get $170-$180m as a minimum. Not sure about more than that but you can't put limits. BO rules are meant to be broken.

Not going to happen. Its over. Avengers killed it. BKB was right all along. And he swung me with his waterproof arguments. Its going to be a Marvel summer. Avengers got the OW, worldwide and most probably the domestic.

Avengers was always going to be big. Always. Never understood the sub $400m predictions. TDK still has a shot though but not for OW. It also has to overcome the 3rd film in the superhero franchise curse.

Whatever the final OW for Avengers will be, I'm in. Here's hoping my prediction ends up above the new record.

Saturday - 60m (40% drop)
Sunday - 51m (15% drop)

Total - 211m

The battle for the domestic crown would also be an interesting race for the two films at this point. Both films are set to do anywhere from 500m-625m at this stage. If WoM on TDKR ends up being mixed, then the race is over even if this club succeeds.

Yes that's right. It should have a huge midnight gross. Also, the theatres will compensate the non-3D showings by just adding more 2D. Sure it's missing out on the extra charge for 3D but it will make that up to get to the new 200m OW barrier as well. That's what I believe.

I bet when WB execs sit down and try to figure out how to outperform Avengers, this will pop up as an option. I mean, how much is the contract these days, 100 grand tops? Return on investment can be huge.

Not likely at all. I'm just glad DH2's bullshit record is gone. It was 5th or 6th in attendance (3m admissions behind SM3/TDK) and only got the record because of inflation/3D. The same cannot be said of SM1, DMC, SM3, or TDK. All of them were either record breaking attendance or tied the record. Avengers at least tied SM3/TDK in attendance and maybe beat them. It is good to see 22m admissions back on top of the dollar record chart.

Yeah $200m to $207m is not that big of a leap. I think Batman can still make $200m OW and get the record though it will just be marginally now.

If you add up the comic book sales of the Avengers characters, they crush Batman's comic book sales. Then when you factor in that Avengers has 3D, there is no chance of a 2D Batman movie beating the numbers it just put up.
