 Re: The Walking Dead
I caught up on this show.
1st Season
The Pilot was by far the best episode. Well thought out and sets the show perfectly. The half-girl Rick shoots at the end is the most chilling and sad scene this show ever had (they tried to do the same thing with Sophia later on, but that was a bust). The next 5 episodes had their moments of brilliance, but a lot of it were empty walks. I especially didn't like the "let's go back to town and get Daryl's brother, oh there's a gang in the town, no it's just people protecting old people" story. Also when their camp was attacked by Walkers at the end of that episode I expected them to find an empty van there and assume Daryl's brother drove those Walkers there as a revenge for them leaving him on the roof. The finale was underwhelming. I expected the CDC guy to carry some sort of a big reveal, not "we need to die, because eventually we will all die" bullcrap.
But overall very enjoyable season which sets the groove and I expected a lot from the following season considering they only had 6 episodes in the first one and there were endless possibilities they could go to with the next season.
2nd Season
But this season is pure shit so far. I actually laughed all the way through the first episode. Complete and utter unintended trash. I actually wrote down all the idiotic things that I just can't understand any writer coming up with.
1. When you see a bunch of Walker you go and hide under the car. WTF? It has been established that the Walkers have some basic senses. And it seemed to me like they could smell the living. They can see them, they can hear them from afar, but they can walk right past them and can't smell them? Also what was the point of that black guy getting cut. There was like a dozen scenes of his blood dripping all over. Bloodthirsty zombies are coming and they can't even smell fresh blood because Daryl put dead corpses on the black guy and himself? That's the logic you want to do The Walking Dead? Also that scene ran like 30 minutes. Yay! Dead zombies walking past the people under the cars!
2. So when Sophia ran we got introduced to the forest. Probably the main character of the season. If we cut away all of the forest scenes where they just walk around and nobody talks I'm pretty sure we would get at least 2 episodes worth of material.
3. The reindeer scene. WTF? Oh look Carl reindeer! Go say high! Oooops, no you got shot! The only redeeming thing that scene had going for itself was the chance for Carl to die. Kids really drag down these type of shows especially when they're badly casted. But that never happened.
4. Also that forest is sure full of crickets. Do zombies eat those? Like a crunchy snack before the main meal?
5. The search for Sophia was full of hilarious moments. My favorite one is when they're split and it's night and Dale is among the cars going towards the camera, eerie atmosphere, he's walking for like 30 seconds, then stops and turns his head. And I'm like "Yay, some zombie action!!", but instead cut - end scene? Huh, what just happened? What was the point of that scene.
6. I forgot to mention this, but also one of the most random moments in the first episode was the church scene. When they open the door and there are 3 zombies just sitting on the bench (praying?), then they simultaneously rise and turn their heads. The old grandma with the veil was the funniest one. She was like "I'm gonna eat you all! I'm praying for my soul and you don't get to interrupt me!". Seriously, praying zombies? How idiotic.
7. "Rest, stay strong." scene is one of the highlights of TWD stupidity IMHO. When Lori and Rick are by Carl's bed and Rick is all pale because of his blood donning and she says to him he needs to rest and stay strong for Carl now and then Rick grabs a nearby sandwich and there's a 10 second look between the two. "Yeah babe, I'm staying strong! I'm gonna eat this sandwich." So the camera is behind Rick's back and we see him finally taking a bite out of that sandwich and then camera focuses on Lori's face where she's like "That's what I'm talking about...". Apparently sandwiches are some kind of power ups in TWD's universe.
8. The flashbacks are horrible and serve no purpose. The one where they explain why Shane left Rick in the hospital has to be the worst flashback ever filmed. So the hospital loses the power and he checks if Rick has a heartbeat and he can't hear it. But why wouldn't Rick have a heartbeat? He wasn't on life support, he was on monitors which were doing just that - monitoring, not keeping him alive. So what if the power went out, he was still alive you dumbshit. I'd rather he just left Rick to save himself. Just like he did with Otis.
9. Oh and when Lori gets her pregnancy test she needs to go out all the way into the field to pee on a stick? What's wrong, the bathroom in the house doesn't have doors? Can't pee there?
10. Walkie talk monologues are also pure evidence of dumbness. Why is Rick narrating everything into the talkie-walkie? If the guy could hear you he would pick up. Don't waste battery on talking shit he doesn't care about. Or is there a talkie-walkie secretary waiting for the black guy and his son to relay them messages? Also I can't wait for those two to come back. The Pilot made them more flesh and blood characters than most of these we are stuck with for 15 episodes now.
11. Also what kind of zombies are these? And since when are they The Walking Dead? It seemed to me that in the first season zombies were of the classic kind. Slow, bloodthirsty, dumb beings. Just the kind I like. But in the second season the run, jump, hide, make traps...? WTF? I have no idea what's in the source material, but it look to me that they decided to amp things up in the second season by pumping up the nature of zombies from the first season.
12. Also the Sophia revelation has to be most expected twist ever. Did anyone really think they would find her alive after that many days?
I'm also not a fan of how every episode of the second season feels limited and bottled. There's virtually only two sets used in every episodes. House and its surroundings + one of the following: forest, town, road.
For a grand scale disaster show, the events feel too low scale. Especially considering the characters aren't strong enough to carry the emotional weight of the show and justify the small scale of the stories.
If the show doesn't improve in these final few episodes then I'm not sure I'll be checking back when the third season starts. I can't fathom how this gets great reviews.

 Re: The Walking Dead
I loved how that zombie knew how to step out of the window, but then tripped because he "forgot" to step down that crate or whatever. Also that zombie pushing the gun out of Rick's hand LOL. But the stuff at the school (??? looked like the same place to me, so it was weird why they decided to go there because they knew the place was swarmed) was good , the stuff at the house dreadful though. Re: The Walking Dead
But seriously... I know the talking stuff is usually boring... but they nailed it tonight. Discussing whether to murder a person?! Brilliant stuff. Really enjoyed this episode. Thought it added much needed depth to almost every character. Which is why Dale dying really felt emotional.

Carl pretty much killed Dale. The kid sure annoyed the hell out of me that I would have rather the kid die by that zombie.

They might have to recast then, otherwise he will look too old for the part. I guess they could do some creative time gaps or something.

 Re: The Walking Dead
OMG. Can the kid finally die? Why all the teases this whole season?
I feel sorry for Dale. Despite him being very preachy, he was a very insightful character. If it wasn't for him Andrea would be long gone, nobody would know the truth about that fat guy Shane left for dead, etc. I never liked him, but he was utilized pretty good by the writers. The same can't be said for any other character unfortunately. Also I completely forgot the black dude was still with them. I loved how he finally got a line and he was interrupted before finishing it. LOL. Nobody cares.
EDIT: I also don't get why they wanna kill that poor guy. First the save him, then they leave him and get swarmed again, then they save him (again) and now they want to kill him? WTF?

 Re: The Walking Dead
He will get more lines next week. Also... before Dale got killed, it showed Daryl sharpening a knife in front of Randall... implying that he was about to kill him himself. Obviously that didn't happen.
Sad there's only two episodes left.

 Re: The Walking Dead
Dale made valid points. Too bad he came across as a serious killjoy.
Also, do these people ever tire of talking all the time? I thought The Talking Dead came on AFTER the show, not during.

 Re: The Walking Dead
Actually, I was thinking about that: for people stuck in one wide-open place, why aren't there more zombies around at the farmhouse? You'd think they would smell them there. 'specially Daryl.

 Re: The Walking Dead
So I'm guessing what Jenner whispered to Rick is that the virus is airborne. Anyone who dies (without having their brain destroyed) thus becomes a zombie.
