"Smash"
Premieres: Monday, February 6th at 10pm on NBC
Starring: Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Christian Borle
Plot Summary: ""Smash" is a larger than life drama that follows a cross section of dreamers and schemers who have one common desire - to make it on Broadway. But, becoming a star isn't for the faint of heart as it will take blood, sweat and tears to survive the oversized egos, conflicting agendas and messy entanglements on the journey to make it to the top."
This show had, in my opinion, the best pilot of any series this season. I'm incredibly excited for its debut. NBC has a lot riding on this one. Steven Spielberg produced and came up with the concept, the budget is high, most of the songs are going to be original (unlike Glee), and the production team behind the scenes is incredibly first-rate for network television. I definitely think they have a hit on their hands. Katharine McPhee in particular is excellent and I wouldn't be surprised if she was an Emmy contender sometime in the future. In addition to the main cast, Uma Thurman will be joining during the latter half of the season for a five-episode guest arc.
The pilot has been made available online via iTunes, Hulu, NBC.com and now YouTube. Here it is below:

Re: "Smash" (Season 1)
I thought the pilot was both good and extremely bad at the same time. Too much going on at the same time. And I think that the going back and forth between the girls will get very tiresome.
Boring I lasted 8 minutes bfeore turning it off...

I hope this does well tomorrow, I'm so nervous for the ratings.

Re: "Smash" (Season 1)
Really liked it. Listening to "Let Me Be Your Star" as we speak.
Other thoughts: -Katharine McPhee has come a long way since Idol. She felt really natural and fresh here. -Speaking of people shedding past baggage, Debra Messing seems like she's going to be great on this show...I detected no trace of Grace Adler -I want to see more with Ivy
Please be a hit.

No surprise someone obsessed with Britney Spears didn't enjoy it.
Good pilot. Will keep watching. Hope it does well for NBC but I can totally see it dropping quite a few viewers after a big sampling for the pilot.

Scored a 3.8 last night (4.2 in first half hour, 3.4 in second) and 11.5M viewers.

Pretty good start, although I hope the drop at 10:30 isn't a big indicator for the future.

Re: "Smash" (Season 1)
Probably not. I mean it probably still had some runover from The Voice's 7.7 at 9:30 and those 3.4 who stayed around for the ending will most likely come back next week. I think a safe guess for next week would be 3.0-3.1.

The production value is really good, and like the numbers so far.

The production value for this show in the first two episodes is better than almost anything I've ever seen on a TV series. The musical numbers put "Glee" to shame.

Re: "Smash" (Season 1)
This show is so good.
I think it is kind of obvious that Karen will get the role here soon even though Ivy has it at the moment.
The transition to sex scene between Ivy and Derek was so quick but yet so well done.
I'm a little hesitant still on Julia's adoption plot and the part with her son just felt off. I did like though when she basically went off on Ellis at the beginning of the episode about how he may have come up with the Marilyn idea but she was actually writing the show. Love Debra.
Oh I can't wait for next week because I can see stuff getting gritty soon.

Re: "Smash" (Season 1)
The second episode was good, although the show is clearly still finding its footing. For as many things that worked in this, there were just as many that didn't: Karen standing up Dev was cliched and could've been fixed with literally a 5 second action of her texting him that she'd be late, for example. I also am not sure how I feel about the adoption storyline.
But Ivy getting the role is an interesting development and I guess we'll see how it all plays out.

Re: "Smash" (Season 1)
It was a good episode. I really like Debra Messing. I'm not too involved in the adoption storyline either though, and the musical numbers kind of bore me . But for the most part the story is interesting enough. I hope it gets better and that audiences stick around long enough to give it a proper chance. Could get great.
Also, is it just me or is the kid who plays Messing's son not a very good actor? Something about him is annoying. I just noticed it this episode where he actually was given a little more to do.
