 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
I also think the breakdown of this game is simple - turnovers and time of possession. In the last game the Patriots had four turnovers to the Giants two. That skewed the time of possession in the Giants favor (30:17 to 29:43 - 34 second difference).
The Patriots scored their last touchdown with 1:36 to go. Take away 34 seconds and that leaves the Giants with 1:02 instead of the 1:21 it took them to score the touchdown. The Giants scored with 15 seconds left. In this scenario with less time for the Giants, having 19 less seconds might have changed their whole strategy. It might have caused Manning to rush a little more than he might have wanted to in that situation.
Or, add 34 seconds onto the 15 that were left when the Giants scored, and the Patriots would've had 49 seconds to go at least 45 yards (assuming they AT LEAST start at their 20) for a game winning field goal attempt. Tough to do, but not improbable. And the two quarterbacks you'd want on your team to attempt such a drive were playing in this game.
In other words I think these teams are very closely matched and we're going to have another nailbiter. As simple as it is, whoever controls the clock and the turnovers, wins. And the Patriots can't allow Manning to have another almost 10 minute drive like he had to open Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots probably won't do it because they haven't done it in years, but if they win the coin toss they shouldn't defer like they always do. If they have a chance to control the game early they should take it. Don't wait until the start of the second half when the Giants might have figured you out.
Oh, and maybe attempt a field goal if they ever get into a fourth and forever situation yet decide to go for it for no good reason like they did in the last Super Bowl. Sure three points isn't as good as seven, but it could be the difference in the game. Either that or punt and pin the Giants behind their 10.

You might as well include Joe Flacco then.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
The Giants offense was without Bradshaw and Nicks in the regular season game, so they will probably a lot stronger. Nevertheless I also expect a close game.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Why did you include Rodgers twice? You only played him once in the season. (That was SEASON pts against)
Also, Patriots lost Spikes during the game, and lost Chung in the 4th quarter, both of their replacements made CRUCIAL mistakes in the game winning drive. (Sergio Brown committed the DPI, Tracy White was covering the TE who scored)
It will come down to line play. Patriots got abused in SB42 on the lines. Right now? Both the D and O line are playing EXCELLENT.

I enjoy the Pro Bowl.
I would enjoy it more if it was more like it used to be. Olympic events and stuff.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
The skills competitions were way better than the game itself. The teams don't really have any "chemistry" which is understandable since the players don't play together.

So, why is the NFC coach playing Newton longer than Brees and Rodgers? I would have kept Brees for last myself.

Gotta throw the rookies in there when it gets serious. Don't want the stars to get hurt towards the end of a meaningless game.

"I never had too much hospitality here, until I went for it on fourth-and-2. Since then, I've been greeted in a lot more friendly manner than I ever was in the past." - Bill Belichick, says he has earned Indianapolis' hospitality. BB's got a sense of humor

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
The Giants sure do seem confident.
Not sure that's a good thing going up against a QB who plays his best when you think you're better than him.
