Just when I was warming up to the guy, he does something stupid like reject the oil pipeline project.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Romney wins NH, probably cinch
The Keystone pipeline is a non-issue. A Manhattan Project-style energy project is what the country really needs. nghtvsn wrote: Obama isn't easily defeating anybody except for people like Newt or Santorum.
His record of high unemployment, cutting defense (I'm for that), Obamacare, the continued flatline in the housing industry and never ending debt increases combined with federal spending will keep any mainstream Republican close to him. Besides, the only polls that really matter are head to head polls in the battleground states like Florida and Ohio. Florida and Ohio are also places where the GOP has seriously shot itself in the foot. Romney might be able to poll well in Florida. Ohio, I doubt it. Note I never said victory would be easy for Obama against Romney. I don't think Obama can improve on his margin against Romney versus McCain unless there's some serious implosion at the GOP and Tampa goes batshit. It's just fairly inevitable if the unemployment rate is where it is now and barring any major scandal or blip. Romney is the Kerry of the GOP.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Romney wins NH, probably cinch
There were several big issues today. First Perry drops out and backs Newt. Newt can win SC now. He has been surging in the last few polls. Also, after recounting Santourm actually won Iowa by 34 votes. So, no Republican has ever won Iowa and New Hampshire. I would say today was a bad day for Romney, especially with his continued tax issues.

Romney is going to blow this and republicans are going to nominate someone who doesn't stand a chance in the general election.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Romney wins NH, probably cinch
Do the people of south carolina have downs?
On one hand you have -guy with tremendous success in private sector and public sector -known for financial expertise on large scale -best match up to beat obama
On the other -A guy whose been out politics 12 years -Claim to fame is 4 years speaker of the house -As speaker, was viewed by own party is more of the problem than solution, and asked to resign
Santorum is a clown, but when he said Newt taking credit for Republican solutions in the 1990s is wrong, if for no other reason than that republicans forced him because they viewed as more of a problem then a solution...he is exactly right. The fact that Gingrich is even competitive is a testament to how simply dumb much of the republican party is.

Newt's ahead by 6 in the past couple SC polls. It might actually be a close race nationally if he gets any momentum.

Newt Gingrich surged during the final stretch, and the last debate sealed it for him. Now we have a race.

It is going to get very interesting. Florida will be huge in 10 days. Who knows we could have a brokered convention.

Well, two major groups are happy after South Carolina: Newt Gingrich supporters, and Democrats.

How quickly this race can change.
Now if Gingrich wins Florida, Romney will be finished.

The latest poll (on the 22nd) has Newt ahead by 8 in FL. In the days before SC Gallup has Romney leading by only 5 nationally.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Newt aka white Tiger back in it
No shit? That means Romney has to fight his way through now. After Iowa and only winning NH by 16.5 points, it makes sense. It's still probably his primary to lose, but it won't be easy.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Newt aka white Tiger back in it
I rarely agree with Coulter but I read an article how she described the SC voters as those who chose the best debater as opposed to the best candidate to challenge Obama.
Bunch of stupid voters in that state if they are so easily swayed by soundbites. It's sickening.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Newt leads FLA. lol
I am still rooting for a brokered convention and I could see it happening. Paul has a great chance at winning Nevada and maybe even Minnesota. Romney should win the NE states. I could easily see nobody winning enough delegates.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Newt leads FLA. lol
Romney's most critical moment will be on April 24th, if it lasts that long.
If Romney can keep the race close with Gingrich until then, like winning Ohio and having a solid showing during Super Tuesday, he could sweep on April 24th when Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island vote, and hopefully force Gingrich out of the race at that late stage.
The GOP doesn't want this race to continue into the Summer.

So Newt's ahead nationally, 31-27, in Gallup's 19-23 poll.
He slipped once, I'm not as sure he will again.

Re: Repub nominee watch - Newt leads FLA. lol
Nah, my prediction is that Newt will slip again. The GOP insiders are scared of him, because they know he has no chance of winning and will hurt the GOP in the other races as well.
They put a huge effort into destroying him in Iowa and it worked. Then they got lazy and he came back. They're mounting a huge effort again. I predict Romney to win Florida.
