If Signs, The Village, and Hannibal can all get over $50 million, why can't The Ring Two?

Good point Zing.
I guess i'm just playing it low, after ROBOTS is set to make $35M-$40M instead of $55M+.
$75M would be the biggest opening horror ever though, and it would need a $20,000+ pta. Which just seems completely and utterly unrealistic.
I rekon $40m-50m. I'm playing it safe.

The Ring 2 has at least twice the appeal of Robots. If limited to just, say, people under 16 years old, more people will go see The Ring 2 opening weekend than Robots opening weekend. Not to mention the huge audience among older teens and adults.
1. The Ring 2 - $77
2. Robots - $19.2
3. The Pacifier - $9.6
4. Ice Princess - $5.9
5. Be Cool - $5.4
6. Hostage - $5
7. Hitch - $4.7
8. Million Dollar Baby - $2.9
9. Diary of a Mad Black Woman - $2.1
10. Constantine - $1.4
** Passion Recut - $0.1

I think that the closest comparison for The Ring Two is The Matrix Reloaded. Both are sequels to movies that no one expected to do a third as well as they did, and have incredibly huge followings on DVD. Everyone knows that this is coming out at my high school, and even the people that didn't like the first will see this so they "can see there friends freak out". The only people that won't see it are the ones who say they're too scared to. The hype has been absolutely huge, and this is in many ways the defining horror movie for my generation. Unlike The Matrix Reloaded the ad campaign isn't quite as big (still a huge 45 million one though) and it doesn't open in the summer, but that's more then made up for by a PG-13 rating. Trust me, this will be on two or three screens in every theater and be on about 3,500 screens. This movie has EVERYTHING going for it.

Exxxxxactly. The Ring Two will cross $75M. I'd love to see it go even higher but it's that damn Sunday which will bring it down. Then again maybe not. Spring Break will be starting for a lot of people the week after, so who knows. Ice Princess might make about $9M, but gotta give it props for daring to go against The Ring Two.

Show me ANY evidence to back that statement up.

Well I did put Ring Two at 56mil for the weekend - but thats just because it'll be extremely frontloaded, so either when it grosses less then 50mil its first weekend or makes less then both Signs and Hannibal will be my evidence

Because Signs and The Village opened during the summer. As for Hannibal, Silence of the Lambs is a pop cultural icon and having one of the most anticipated sequel to a movie with a 10 year wait is understandable. The Ring is not as popular as Silence of the Lambs was and the impact it had on movie culture. I cant see it opening up to 75 million unless it was released during the summer
And nope we dont overpredict animated films because thus far, Robots was the only kiddie animated film that was overpredicted generally. Shark Tales was underpredicted so was Shrek and Finding Nemo. Guess we cant forget we overpredicted Cursed big time just not that long ago

Ring 2 might not have the impact on film that Silence did, but it's still a HUGE film among teens and young adults, and certainly one of the most popular films of the last ten years. I'd be SHOCKED if it opened under $55 million.

I wrote a good analysis of what The Ring Two has going for it, and why I predict it will fall short of even a $55 million opening. I'll see if I can find it though.

There is no possible way that Ring 2 opens over $50 million, let alone $60, 70 or 80 million. This is not Star Wars, people. To date, the biggest opening horror film is probably The Grudge with $38 million...I think Ring 2 can do better than that, but more like $45 million (and then be #1 over Easter as well).
I have little to no confidence in Ice Princess making more than $10 million...I'd say maybe $9 million.
