 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Both these teams will be in the playoffs for sure, barring injury to their QBs. Watching the Packers, the only faults I saw were special teams kick coverage and a "what the hell was he thinking" Charles Woodson punching a guy in the ribs. If the league only fines him, I would not protest if the Packers suspend him for a game for that. Just stupid.
Otherwise, the offense looked amazing and the short yardage defense did too.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Quote: The Green Bay Packers beat the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football, the opening game of the 2011 NFL season. The Week 1 schedule is packed with great games, including the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens, but the Saints-Packers game may have been the best matchup and the TV ratings prove that.
Thursday nights game on NBC drew a 17.2 overnight rating, which matches the 2010 BCS National Championship game between Alabama and Texas. According to CNBC's Darren Rovell, it's the second highest rated regular season primetime game in 13 years. It's pretty clear that the lockout didn't deter a lot of NFL fans from watching the game. If anything, it may have created an even more popular league, at least in the early stages of the season, because people have been missing football so much. We've been wondering how fans will react to the return of football. Will they come back in droves? Will they punish the league's lockout by not watching? I think these TV ratings answer that question. http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2011/9/9/24 ... tv-ratings

Good game. Except for the lack of any kind of defense...

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Green Bay's defense gave up a lot of points, but they won the game with the goalline stand and the 4th and 1 from earlier in the game. Payton's play calling on both of those was suspect. Play action on a crucial 4th down? And then taking the game out of Brees' hands and giving it the rookie Ingram? Always QB sneak! Don't these coaches play Madden?

Saints WR Marques Colston suffered a broken collarbone in the loss Thursday against Green Bay. He will be out at least 4 weeks.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Any Fantasy Football gurus want to take a stab at this one.
Ray Rice or Tim Hightower in a PPR league.
If it wasn't for PPR I would start Hightower. The Steelers D is always phenomenal against the run......but Rice will undoubtedly catch a few swing passes and that alone will get me some points even if he doesn't end up with many rushing yards. Hightower is going up against the Giants, another team that is pretty good at stopping the run but with a few injuries to the D this year....I don't think they'll be great. With the crappy QB situation in Washington I could see them dialing up a lot of run plays which will mean a lot of attempts for Hightower.
As of right now I'm going w/ Rice. He is clearly the better back (just in a tougher situation) and has a better potential in a PPR league.
Thoughts?

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
I would start Rice regardless. He's gonna get all the goal line touches and the Ravens are almost assuredly gonna score more points than the Redskins. I wouldn't trust Hightower at all.
In other news, Arian Foster is out today. I guess the Texans figure they can beat the Colts without him.

Play your studs. Hightower isn't a stud, therefore, RICE!

That opening at Soldier Field with the anthem was pretty emotional.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Some really shocking results so far, I never expected the Steelers and the Falcons to get crushed or the Jags and the Bills to be any good. Weren't the Chiefs supposed to be a breakout team?

No. Chiefs have the HARDEST schedule this year. I, and anyone with knowledge, predicted them to decline.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
And yet, hosting the Bills was supposed to one of their easiest wins.
Probably not gonna be a good season for the Chiefs.

 Re: 2011 NFL Discussion
Only the Cowboys could have found a way to lose that one. That stat they showed was ridiculous. It was like 241-0-1 when the cowboys were leading by 14 in the 4th quarter so this was a freakish loss.
On the bright side Dez looked great. Well, all the weapons did they just need to not make dumb mistakes like punt kick protection and Romo not making silly turnovers.
