Re: The Voice - Season One
It's just their luck the premiere will be against the last half-hour of a 90-minute episode of Glee. lol

This was surprisingly really entertaining and better than "Idol" has been in YEARS.

Re: The Voice - Season One
Halfway through it. Not bad. Though they're killing me with back-stories. They're even more annoying than the AI ones...
I do mind that they already prepicked people. It kinda lessens the impact of blind auditions. And when they did the blind audition for us too, I thought we were having a transgender person (coming out, being who you are, etc...) and then it's a regular looking lesbian????? Whuuuut? On to the next half...

I am glad this did well in the ratings! It beat Dancing and Glee in the demo! Hopefully it holds up.

Re: The Voice - Season One
I like this show. I like everything about the format and the intangibles (live tweeting, hidden contestants until chosen by a judge, etc.) They've focused on the singing part which is what I like.
Run down of the performances:
Tarralyn Ramsey (black chubby girl) (4.5/10) - She forgot a couple of words in the first line and flubbed another. She finished strong. She has potential.
Patrick Thomas (country guy with hat) (7.5/10) - This guy has great control of his voice. He may not have the most power/range to his voice but he knows where his vocal strengths/weaknesses are and I appreciate that. Most likely will be a country singer on the show/beyond but he has crossover appeal. I like his voice too. It's deep and it has a somewhat soulful twist to go along with a country twang. I would pick him.
Jared Blake (bald rocker) (3/10) - He doesn't have the voice to go far. He started off and wowed me and then just went downhill from there. Right decision from the judges.
Vicci Martinez (lesbian) (5.5/10) - It was mediocre. There were things I liked and didn't like about the performance. She has good control of the voice, not a bad voice. It seems like she was really trying to push the high notes...not effortless and she didn't really wow me even though she was singing pretty much in the high notes.
Sonia Rao (Indian) (4/10) - She was pretty borderline. Nothing stood out. The way she started the song also killed her chances of getting picked.
Elenowen (married couple) (4.5/10) - I only like one half of the duo. The girl has potential but the guy's voice is simply too weak to move on. Love Blake's reaction and Adam's comment.
Frenchie Davis (American Idol DQ'd contestant) (3.5/10) - She has a voice but she really oversteps and is sharp at times or she goes into screeching mode. I wasn't particularly impressed when she was on AI and I'm still not now. In fact, I think her voice sounds worse with a band. Christina really likes strong voices. Love Cee-Lo's comment!
Kelsey Rey (Not European/1 million video Youtuber) (4.5/10) - I like her voice but that song is horrid! The song is a total 0 and didn't help showcase how good her voice is. Still, she has major potential if she can pick better songs.
Jeff Jenkins (Mom Sob Story) (10/10) - YES. Amazing voice. He has huge crossover appeal and is a massive threat to win it. I would 100% pick him. HAHAHA at Christina's reaction!!!
Rebecca Loebe (homeless, living in a car) (8.5/10) - Her voice can seduce a crowd. Adam is smart and was able to sweet talk his way into getting her. Whatever Adam decides to do with her, I am absolutely down. If there is one drawback, it's that I don't like breathy whispers at all. Her voice is pretty unique though so hopefully Adam brings out her potential.
Joann Rizzo (old Jersey girl) (4/10) - She has a good cabaret voice. No room for potential here.
Xenia (teenager) (7/10) - She and her voice have maturity beyond her years. Her voice isn't strong but her tone is very nice. She has good potential and can go far. LOL @ Blake. Nice.
Tje Austin (black afro guy) (9/10) - Smooth voice. He can dip in and out of different genres easily. Smooth voice. Like him. I'm glad they didn't show his face at first. It made him more memorable. Can win it all.
Javier Colon (interracial marriage, black) (9.5/10) - From the first note, you can tell he's very good. Knows when to pull back and not do too many runs. A simple, lovely performance. Definite appeal/massive potential. Adam's response to Christina was perfect. Blake...wow!
Beverly McClellan (old, young at heart rocker) (9/10) - Most of the time the ones with raspy, rocker type voices end up rocking out of tune. She was rocking in tune which was a great surprise. She has great control of her voice. Loved it! It'll be interesting to see how far her appeal will go and what Christina does with her.
Teams:
1. Adam by far
2. Cee-Lo 3. Blake
4. Christina
Coaches:
1. Adam - He's very smart and knows how to sweet talk certain contestants that he wants (Jeff/Javier).
2. Cee-Lo - Almost right up there with Adam. He knows talent when he sees it but he doesn't know how to sell himself to get the artists that he wants.
<GAP>
3. Blake - I get the sense that he doesn't like big voices and he's more into people singing from their soul. He's willing to sacrifice vocals for originality/uniqueness/talent but I don't think he has the eye that the other two have.
4. Christina - Clearly she loves big voices but it will be her downfall once the battle rounds start coming. She's gonna regret not choosing singers of different styles to round out her pack.
I couldn't remember all their names so I decided to write a short blurb about them to help me in pointing them out. Lots of performances tonight. Good mix of singing/judges' banter/artist selection. I don't really care for the backstories though.

Wow I really liked this show.
And for the first episode you can tell Adam's team will win this.

Re: The Voice - Season One
I'm watching the Voice currently. I don't know if I can deal with CD though. I just saw CA turn around on the Frenchie girl.
Is it possible I guess that no judge turns around?

Is it possible I guess that no judge turns around? i believe you already found that out, I believe it happened 3 times. Kind of feel bad for those people. Frenchie got damn lucky, she wasnt all that great.

Re: The Voice - Season One
Quote: A repeat of The Voice premiere episode for NBC delivered a surprisingly strong 2.1 adults 18-49 rating from 9-11pm. That will beat plenty of NBC original episodes this week. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/0 ... vers/90834Not bad considering the episode aired just a day ago. I expect an increase next week.

Re: The Voice - Season One
I really enjoyed the premiere, and will definitely be watching in the future. I really enjoy that the sing current songs and that there aren't any joke auditions. A by-product of a more stringent selection process, but I don't care if it allows me to avoid people dressed up in funny costumes and arguing with judges.
Names escape me, however I like the voices behind: God Bless the Broken Road; Come As You Are; Rolling in the Deep and Live Like You Were Dying.
Falling Slowly and Breathe were not that great. I believe the coaches who selected them will be regretting that decision soon, if not already.

Re: The Voice - Season One
Idk if I like the audience clapping in front of the judges. I think you can get a bit of peer pressure to pick someone. I just heard a guy do a mraz song who was not very good. Then this other guy did some acoustic gaga song which was horrible. Now, Christina goes and picks this 16 yr old girl who can't sing a Leona Lewis song. Why??? She would not have got through an AI audition with that performance. That was total charity. Embarrassing.

Re: The Voice - Season One
It's not too bad if judges pick people who aren't that great. Good fodder for the next round, where they'll put their own contestants up against each other in singing battles.
The judges really make this show for me. I just love their banter, and I'm especially enamoured with Adam Levine, who is just the cutest thing ever.

Re: The Voice - Season One
Taylor & Tori Thompson can't get off my TV soon enough. I hate them.
The guy who sang "Hey, Soul Sister" was pretty good. Compared to last week, the show was pretty bad. Second Chances was a terrible idea. They were cut for a reason!...although I am kinda glad Angela got through.
