Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
I was totally surprised to see a half page ad in today's newspaper when I read them this morning... I NEVER saw an ad for a TV show in newspapers here... HBO is cashing out all around the world for this one. (image inside)

I've never read the novels, and high fantasy isn't a favorite of mine in general, but I thought the pilot was absolutely terrific.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
Yeah, the series is new to me but I really, really dug it.
It was both vulgar and epic. The final sequence is a complete WTF to me.
There were also intestines flying out at a wedding reception. lol
Best line, Viserys to Daenerys because she doesn't wanna marry the nomad warrior and Viserys thinks he's the key for them to go home and reclaim the throne: "I would let the whole tribe fuck you. All 40,000 men and their horses too... if that's what it took..."

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
So HBO won't release official ratings for last night's brilliantly hyped premiere of Game of Thrones until tomorrow. But one early indicator suggests that the numbers probably won't break any records. Don't panic, GoT groupies: The good news is, HBO doesn't live or die by Nielsen's verdict, and we're about 98.5 percent certain that the network will green-light a second season of the epic fantasy. That said, let's look at what the first returns from Nielsen show.
According to data obtained by Vulture, GoT earned a 1.6 rating in Nielsen's overnight household sample. By way of comparison, last September's debut of Boardwalk Empire on HBO averaged a 2.8 rating in the overnights. Household ratings aren't used much anymore, with most networks tending to look at overall viewership or demographic averages to gauge a program's success. What's more, because of HBO's smaller distribution — it's in about 28 million homes — household overnight ratings can vary substantially from the national total viewer figure. All of these caveats aside, down is down: Based on this snapshot of its performance, it's clear GoT won't come close to matching the nearly 5 million viewers who watched the Boardwalk Empire premiere in September.
In fairness, despite the massive marketing, GoT had a big disadvantage versus Boardwalk: The latter series was heavily promoted during HBO's airings of massive hit True Blood. By contrast, HBO's on-air promos for GoT aired during Mildred Pierce, which failed to crack a million viewers last week. It's also worth noting that True Blood began small — attracting fewer than 2 million viewers when it debuted. It's now HBO's biggest hit, with an audience three times as big as it started with.http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/20 ... rones.html

Indeed. Rome's two-season run springs to mind.

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO) | 1st Season - starts April 17th 2
I watched the pilot twice. First time I was crying. I was so fucking happy to see this. The second time I watched to actually see what I was watching before.
A perfect adaptation (so far). HBO really set a fucking huge bar for the fantasy TV show with this one.
Also was Ghost the cutest pup on TV ever or what???? They should have had a lengthier scene with him. Next time direwolves show up they'll be much bigger, those couple of scenes where we saw Summer he was much bigger.
It was perfect. Great casting. One small thing irked me though. Jaime and Cersei and Joffrey are all supposed to be golden haired. Why do fuck do they have nearly charcoal black eyebrows? It takes minutes to color the eyebrows... Yeah the who,e thing was so fucking good I had to complain about the eyebrows...

That number is for the original airing only. HBO showed the pilot twice more immediately after the first airing and it's showing the pilot again on all six outlets - once on five channels (HBO, Comedy, Zone, Latino, Signature) and again three times on HBO 2. That's 1 original airing and 10 reruns in primetime in only two days...
