Indeed.

This is one of the most shocking eliminations since... JHud or Chris Daughtry. This really blows.
hehe Stefano must feel like shit. he needs to go, he has become the predictable one.

That must have been embarrassing for Stefano to have to be up there expecting to go home and then you get spared but it's followed by waves of boos. Mmm nmh mmm

Umm so I haven't been watching this season but my I've been told by 4 (!) separate friends tonight that they are no longer watching now that this Pia girl was eliminated.

well...blame the judges....

* saving a guy in the 11th spot...so serves them right for not saving it

* and they were so nice to all, that they didn't give the voters hints on who to get rid of

* and just like the voters who didn't vote for Pia, the judges didn't put Pia over the top with their comments

Pia was great but she really wasnt the show. IMO she has a big singing voice but she lacked "something", not sure what...

Uh no but seriously, they need to find a way to fix their voting system. Because it's broken.

I think we all know I was obsessed with Kris Allen in season 8, but it was like 80% because he's a fantastic musician and 20% because he's crazy hot. But it kind of sounds like most of these male singers this season aren't even that talented. It's now some weird American Male Cutie competition, yet again some more, and it's hilarious to think that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood probably wouldn't even make the top 3 if they were on Idol now just because they have vaginas.

Wow.

Pia might have had a bit of a boring personality, but I enjoyed hearing her sing more than any of the others. And it's not like Stefano is the epitome of interesting personalities, and he brings all of his boring with him on stage for completely uninspiring vocals.

I don't think I'll be watching much of the rest of this season. I'll check out Haley online because I'm kind of rooting for her since she's got such a fun personality, and I'll probably check out Lauren too because she's the only girl who still has a chance of getting far, but otherwise... meh.

A few weeks in and we've lost 5 out of 7 girls, and none of the guys? I agree with Libs, the voting system is messed up. It's been that way for a while now, and I can't honestly see any woman winning again if it stays this way. Crystal kicked everyone's ass all season long last year, and she ended up losing to another white guy with a guitar because... he had cute eyes? I don't even know.

And aside from all the eliminations having been female so far...

Black girl? Gone.
Latina girl? Gone.
Asian girl? Gone.
Jamaican girl? Gone.

Wait, what do you mean there's still a girl who's vaguely ethnic and has a clearly Italian sounding name? Let's get rid of HER too.

If the first male eliminations are Stefano and Jacob (which isn't unlikely, since they're terrible) I will laugh. I mean, it would be a politically incorrect laugh, but I wouldn't be able to help myself.

I am The Lesser Evil and this... is... Fantasy White Boyfriend Idol.

Pia was so darn boring personality-wise, but she did not deserve to go before Stefano, Jacob or Paul.

How do you fix what isn't broken? Pre-teen white girls that stay up after Idol and vote for the cutest guy are the 55+ million votes that Idol gets. Do any of you vote? I doubt it. It's because we're not the demographic that matters for Idol's success. You silence that demographic, you silence the show.

I learned this season that it doesn't matter who wins this show. The top of the talent pool tends to float upward when it ends. Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, their names remain fairly relevant. Lee DeWyze, Taylor Hicks, David Cook, they float belly-up because the very same demographic that votes does not go out and buy/download CDs/songs in the same numbers. Truthfully, the Idol producers likely care more about immediate gratificiation in ratings and numbers rather than album sales. By the time an Idol succeeds or fails in the post-season, it's time for the next season of talent to hit TV and we forget that only a handful of true talent makes it from this show.

There are only two possible alternatives:

A. You do what Dancing With the Stars does and only allow a set number of votes per household based on the number of remaining contestants. Ten left, you vote ten times. Four left, you vote four times. It seems to work for them.

B. Only allow one vote per phone line. When the pre-teen voting machine loses their favorites early on, they stop voting. So this isn't an option for Idol.

I like the DWTS vote idea.

I also think texting should be 10 votes per line or could also be limited based on contestants.

Internet voting should be done away with altogether.

Finally, I went to the dialidol site yesterday and one of the forum threads had a breakdown on estimated Facebook/Twitter and Dial Idol votes and it was Scary how many votes Scotty was getting.

I still think you're incorrect on this one, and it's actually the middle-aged women that comprise a majority of the show's votes. The system is broken. I'm not even watching and I know that. Only women have been voted off. And the only two women remaining? White girls. You know who'll probably be picked off next, if it's not the girls? The ethnic men.

Do you honestly think Kelly or Carrie would even win American Idol now? This makes Jordin Sparks beating Blake Lewis by a huge margin kind of shocking in retrospect, but that was also four years ago.

Season 8 had three men as the top finishers, but that season had a lot of talent overall and the girls (other than Allison) were extremely unimpressive. Lee Dewhatshisname beating Crystal head-to-head was the straw that broke the camel's back, especially for me...I knew season 10 would just be a rerun of that bullcrap, and it sounds like it is.

The funniest thing about this, though, is that the Internet firestorm that erupted following Pia's elimination is so strong that she'll probably get a record deal almost immediately.

And I think X Factor is going to become a buzz show just like Idol used to be, because this kind of thing won't happen on that show.

Middle-aged white women are to blame too, yes. The same moms obsessed with Twilight and Robert Pattinson are voting for the cutest guys as well. I'm not calling you a middle-aged mom, Libs, but... you kind of voted for Kris Allen mostly because you thought he was hot. 80% talent to 20% hotness my ass.

And yes, I'm only teasing. Well... half-teasing...

The people who genuinely care about the most talented performers are not wasting their time by voting. They're watching the show. That's enough for them. It's a TV show to most of us. If we vote, we're degrading ourselves by taking part in a silly process that most of us feel is beneath us to begin with. But that's why the wrong people win this show.

To be honest, I would rather vote for Dancing With the Stars than American Idol. Maybe it's because the most talented people do tend to rise to the top on that show (ignore Bristol Palin). Maybe it's because it's a more mature show than American Idol. Maybe it's because it's a sexually-charged show disguised as family-friendly fare. I just find it to be all-around better than Idol in a lot of ways. If I vote online for DwtS, I don't feel like I'm voting with millions of little girls.

If anything, this is one long confession that I watch Dancing with the Stars and love it. It's hugely underrated on KJ.

I'm not sold on X Factor just yet. Too much hype too far in advance. I want it to be different from American Idol in every way imaginable. I hope it works. Sometimes, I love the judges. Sometimes, I really miss Simon.

well, most reports blame teenage girls....and I would think they would most go crazy on voting...

also besides the judges, blame AI as they always want to have a super high number of votes...bragging about it on the show...

and yes they should limit the votes.....then the %s would lead to a better results

Bitch was in the bottom 3???? Hahahahaha, too bad he wasn't the one to go home. Next week hopefully!

EDIT: Pia's demise is not THAT surprising. Her non-persona act just caught up to her. Even now I don't really feel that she was sad. Fake, fake, fake... Ratings won't drop. Pia obviously has vocal support. But a very small one.

I blame the judges for Pia's exit too. Their complete non-criticism on Wednesday did no one any favours, especially not because it completely diminished the gap in talent between the contestants. Sure, people harp on Pia's lack of a personality or stage presence, but the girl had it going on vocally. Also? So hot. When she was eliminated I had a hard time looking at anything but her breasts thinking "Damn, those puppies look great" and I'm beyond gay.

I didn't even think Pia was that good. This week was one of the few performances by her I enjoyed.

If u want to blame somebody. Blame the judges. They say they're all perfect and great and don't offer any real feedback. The viewers 90% of the time listen to the judges. It was obvios Stefano did a poor job but no one offered real feedback. Simon knew perfectly how to manipulate the viewers.

I fast forward thru the judges now they're so useless

This. Pia was more of a one trick pony than Scotty. All voice, nothing else. She never connected with the audience, and was so BLAH. Haley and Lauren ARE the only girls that can sing + have personalities.
