Re: Modern Family - Season 2
So glad this is back. The premiere was nothing outlandish but, true to form, hilarious.
Jay: "That bookshelf was my Vietnam. And I was in Vietnam."
Cam: "If there's another accident, I hope Mitchell kills me this time. I don't think I'd be a very inspiring disabled person."
Loved the Dunphys and the station wagon, especially the commotion when Luke was going to throw up and then Phil jumping on it.
Also, Gloria and Manny. I loved Sofia Vergara's delivery of "it was delicious" about the salt in the milk.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
Good premiere. The only part that (still) doesn't work at all are Phil and Claire and their family. I really don't get what's supposed to be fun(ny) there. Otherwise Vergara is doing some brilliant work again and Mitchell and Cameron are still a one-two punch duo that probably get the most laugh out of me.

Claire is the balance of the family and most people love Phil.

It was a very enjoyable premiere. Glad I was able to catch up on the first season earlier in the month. As long as they use Luke as little as they did this episode I will be happy.

Isnt Phill the main guy in this? From what ive seen he makes the show and everyone seems to love him. And Claire is hot so thats enough.

There isn't a main guy/girl in MF. They all share screen time equally.

Ok, fair enough though at work all that anyone seem to speak about is Phill. So I got that impression

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
For me, they all pull their weight. This is one of the very few shows where the entire cast works. I've never felt like "Oh, Eric Stonestreet is the best part" or "Sofia Vergera is the best". Just when I think it, someone else does something awesome. Best cast in a long time. Probably since Frasier/Friends/Seinfeld in their primes.
I've been watching the first season of Modern Family on DVD at the same time and there really isn't any drop off in quality between those episodes or the second season premiere. The sophomore slump is almost always a guarantee for new shows, so I hope it doesn't fall victim to it.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
I always felt that with Modern Family you come for Cameron, but you stay for Phil (or Vampire Dad, as my friend calls him). His comic timing's impeccable and he's just believable enough in his childish persona. The first ep back wasn't a standout but it had it's moments. Vampire Dad alone had two very funny moments:
1. The look on his face during the time machine conversation with Claire just after he says "not until they figure out a way to stop wormholes collapsing in on themselves". 2. "Wow, this place has really changed. Time marches on, huh? See that Starbucks down there, you know what that used to be?" "An orange grove?" "No, a Burger King. You can still see some of the architecture."

Agree... Phil is a great character. I'd say he's my favorite. Followed closely by Gloria.
Also, it's the only show where I actually like the kids... Luke is great comic relief, and Manny is a pretty funny character too.

Love this show.
It's nice to see they've finally acknowledged Gloria's twins. Besides that, way too many hilarious moments in the first episode. From Mitchell sticking his head out of the Rapunzel cutout in the castle to Gloria's confession about the salted chocolate milk, it was pretty funny all the way through.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
Last night's episode was hilarious.
Cam's pratfall. Everything Gloria did to Jay (slapping the chicken!) "I thought you were! You totally have the sandals for it!" The screaming between Claire, Haley and Alex. Phil's paint calamity at the end of the episode.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
Say whatever you want and pimp the awful Phil as much as you want but Sofia Vergara is by far the best one in the cast. The last episode was a true showcase of how awesome she (and her character is). I loved the whole kiss/emotion fight with all the family.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
I think it's a pretty great cast when it seems most people have a different answer as to who's their favorite. Claire and Mitchell are fairly underrated just because they play the straight men, so to speak, to Phil and Cameron, respectively.
Simultaneously watching Season 1 on DVD as well. I forgot all about the awesome of Fizbo.

Not counting the kids (who are all hit-or-miss) I think Mitchell is the weak link among the cast. I'm never really amused by anything he does and I don't care for him much as a character. He's bitches too much.

I think everyone is funny but I'd agree Mitchell is the least consistently amusing character. Phil and Gloria are my favorites.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
Without Mitchell, Cameron would not be funny at all. Mitchell gives a perfect backdrop for a lot of funny moments with Cameron and with his father. Mitchell and Cameron are like the modern day gay version of Laurel and Hardy.
1. Gloria 2. Mitchell/Cameron/Jay 3. Manny 4. Claire/Phil 5. Bunch of kids...
That's how I'd rank the characters.

Gloria is actually the only I can't really stand. Her voice is just too grating to find her hilarious. Other than her, I absolutely love the show. Need to buy Season 1.

Cool idea. My ranking would go a bit like this:
1. Phil 2. Everyone else except... 3. Gloria

I still can't think of anyone I'd rank low on the list. Everyone has their purpose and serves it well for me. They all play well off one another.

Just started watching Season 1, and loved it so far. I agree every cast serves a purpose, and they do it well. Great chemistry.

Re: Modern Family - Season 2
Golden moments from yet another exquisite episode of Modern Family:
"Do my shoulders" and Mitchell getting the shaving cream had me in stitches. HILARIOUS.
Claire's laughing at Phil with her mouth but not her eyes.
Cam: "I was leaning towards the park." Claire: "I can see that."
"There was not a dry eye in the cartel."
Everything with Haley and Alex.
