Nice effort by Weaver today. We finally beat Cliff Lee this year. 2 out of three is not bad. The hard part is now over, now here come the easy teams throughout August.

Is he good enough? And how about the 5th starter? I'm pessimistic about the Angels this season and I don't think I'm the only one...

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Red Sox put Paps on waivers and he got selected so I guess he will he pulled off waiver list.
But does that mean Red Sox are giving up on the year and were trading to trade Paps for prospects.
Too bad they didn't realize this in July as they could have traded him easier.

Too bad they didn't realize this in July as they could have traded him easier. Gun, if you don't understand. Check the news and come back and answer the question in #2 above. As you don't put a player on waivers unless you are trying or thinking about trading the player.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Papelbon was claimed off waivers. Which means teams want him. The Red Sox will now take him off waivers and think about trading him next year. Whoop dee doo. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/38565981/ ... ayer_news/

So, nothing has happened? Gril Waivers are pretty standard, I've seen Posada and Cano on waivers in years past too, it doesn't mean anything, I thought you meant they already chose not to retain him, you really need to open your eyes when you type, you need a rosetta stone to get through that post.

Gun, guess you really don't know baseball. As teams don't put current stars on waivers unless they are thinking trade.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
What would you call the best closer in baseball, arguably as I know you'll throw Rivera in there?

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Since 07- Paplebon 141 saves Rivera- 135 saves
Paplebon has an entire team backing on him most of the time thanks to the injures = more impressive this year.

They're both great, and is stupid to argue, but you call Paplebon not a star is just idiotic.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
There's no attitude, your adding speculation to nothing. MLB teams put up to 7 teams on waivers at different times, its common practice. Lowell was on there too, despite his 2 run homer first game back, and hes here to stay now with Youkilis out.
On the Red Sox, despite them not trading him, if they did, it wouldn't be the end of the world, Bard is great and I've gotten pissed many times when they take him out after just one inning. He has the ability to be even better than Pap in my opinion, his fast ball is over 100 at times. Glad Ellisbury is back, hopefully Pedroia returns soon.
Oh and Congrats Arod- You've hit ur 100th homerun steroid free!

Oh and Congrats Arod- You've hit ur 100th homerun steroid free! Whatever but Lowell has always been on the trading block and would still have been if not for the Youk injury. And again, teams don't put players on waivers they aren't planning on trading. Or have Pederia, ellsbery or Lester been on the waiver list ever.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Waivers are usually for the most part secretive and kept between the league. Like said its common practice for all teams as a kind of strategy to see if there are any prospects out there that they can get to better the team. Baseball is a business, and sometimes you have to put better players whose contracts are close to being up to see how they do. Your making it seem like the Yankees don't have 5-7 players on waivers now, all of the contracts are so high it would be silly to claim any of them at this point in the season, hence noone claimed any of them. Someone must really need desperate right now so they are going after Pap, but it won't happen.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Youk gone is terrible, but Pedroia and Ellisbury returning soon is good as I think Lowell still has a great bat. Hope this is a great series.
