Re: The Official FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 thread
The free kick that set up Gyan's penalty kick should have never been awarded. The Ghana player tripped over himself and the linesman or whatever referee makes that call made yet another crucial mistake. Now Gyan has to deal with missing the shot, and Suarez is out for the next match. For a World Cup, the officiating has been atrocious as far as I am concerned missing so many offsides and fouls in front of the goal. It has really detracted from enjoying the games. I question if the right team is actually moving forward. I also thought the officiating cost Portugal in the game against Spain. Ronaldo got fouled multiple times and the refs did not call any of those. I doubt it would have made a difference but I wonder.
I also question the two yellow cards rule through the WC equating to an automatic suspension for the next game. I know it is not exactly equivalent, but it is similar to disqualifying a basketball player for getting 3 fouls in game one and three in game two during the playoffs. Then he has to sit out game 3. They should reward risk taking if they want exciting matches, and they seem to be rewarding caution. However, I am just an ignorant American, so what do I know.

The kick was awarded due to the hand ball in the scoring area.

The penalty kick was but that play was set up by the previous free kick that had nothing to do with a hand foul. I was talking about the free kick which set off the chaos in front of the goal which then created the penalty kick opportunity. The penalty kick was the correct call, but it was created by the previous mistake on the free kick decision.

Germany is dominating early on, looking very dangerous on each attack. Argentina still hasn't settled down yet.

Re: The Official FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 thread
Germany deservingly lead at the half; they are fast, fit, and organized. Argentina only generated a couple of half chances, and they did more complaining than shooting on goals.

Podolski to Klose, how many times we have seen that in the last several World Cups. The young guys for Germany are amazing, but the old ones are as consistent as ever.

Germany is going to lose against a team as boring as Spain.
