Ahaha, that's perfect. BTW, this was the first movie my mom saw in theaters since 1998.

See, I saw that resemblance, but I thought the garbage man looked too old for a college-aged Sid. Good little cameo though, definitely rhe best villain of the series.

I don't see how it's unnecessary. It's about facing mortality and managing to get a reprieve through rebirth. Other toys are not so lucky. There are similarities in Lotso/Stinky Pete, escape and the ideas of abandonment, yes. But the lingering feeling of uselessness and obsolescence is not in the entirety of TS2 like it is in 3. Even in the hilarious moments, there's a tinge of sadness lurking.

If anything, it turns TS2 upside down. Woody could have had immortality in the museum, but chose not to. Woody could have chosen that over the toys that were his family. He and the others escape not from immortality through the daycare and incinerator, but from hell and oblivion. The daycare is seen in the beginning like a pre-graveyard or retirement home. It's really pre-incineration and hell. The movie is about reincarnation. You have to live ignored, then abused, then through horrible obstacles before you might be able to come back, or in the case of the toys, as I recall, to see that Andy didn't abandon them later on (a riff on "the dead don't know they're dead", I suppose).

Everybody has already said what I belive. On a sidenote, the opening of this film really got excited about the idea of a Pixar western.

Easily the best of the three TS films and perhaps the best Pixar after Ratatouille.

The film certainly gets better as it goes along. Serious and dark undertones weaved through an exciting escape story make this a must see. Im quite surprised as ive never been attached to the TS films.

Grade : A

Day and Night was brilliant.

Toy Story 3 is exceptional, that goes without saying, and definitely the best film I've seen all year.

But there was one question that stayed at the back of my mind. Was any of this really necessary?

I thought Toy Story 2 finished the franchise fine, and Disney moved forward with a Toy Story 3 sequel as a tactic to get Pixar back to the negotiation table when they were renewing their contract together.

Pixar picked up on this project, stopping it immediately. But then they came back to it years later.

Now, after seeing in 11 films only 1 sequel, Pixar has 3 of their 4 films from 2010-2012 as sequels. It's no coincidence that Pixar's box office grosses, while stellar, just weren't where they were at the beginning, when CG animation was new. So part of me thinks the rush of Pixar sequels was almost certainly a financial decision.

So after thinking about if Toy Story 3 was even necessary, I re-read the story outline for Toy Story 2. The film ends this way:

As the new toys become accustomed to having a new owner, Woody tells Buzz that he's not worried about Andy growing up, because when he does, Woody will still have Buzz to keep him company "for infinity and beyond."

So we knew that they were all going to be fine when Andy grew up, so was it completely necessary to show exactly what happens to them? In some ways, its a nice way to finish the story, but with an 11 year wait, clearly Pixar/Disney saw no urgency to wrap up the storyline any sooner, so I do question if this was even necessary.

In some ways, I got a Star Wars Episode 1-3 feeling from this, or Indiana Jones 4. Was there really a need for more sequels? Probably not. But at least Pixar knows how to deliver.

Regardless of the reason why the film is being released, it is sensational. Pixar is in top form, its great to see the cast back together. The animation is fantastic, the short film probably my favorite of theirs yet. Story was strong, but there were a number of similarities between Kelsey Grammer's villain character in Toy Story 2 and the Bear in Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 was definitely well done and the last 15 minutes certainly make the movie. Another home run from Pixar.

8.5/10

I agree O, this ties into the feeling I had about it as well. There's a disconnect to me here between Toy Story 3 as completing a trilogy, and Toy Story 3 as getting everyone back for another adventure and paying tribute to TS1 and TS2. Andy going to college and donating the toys fits into the former, while the daycare escape plot fits in the latter and came off to me for the most part, as for us. And I'm not really complaining about this, but I don't think Pixar's overall character and story trilogy arc matters as much as it would if they were starting another 3 movie franchise today. I think they're closer to James Bond than LOTR series wise...

TOY STORY 3

Loved it. I wasn't as hyped to see this sequel but I'm happy I did. It felt fresh to me. I had tried watching TS1 & TS2 in that combo 3d event last summer but it wasn't working for me. This film brought back that magic and story telling. I liked the story and all the new characters. I was surprised when Lotso stabbed them in the back after twice helping him. Then that part with them holding hands was crazy and very sad. I agree about the last party with Andy being almost tear inducing. I was getting teary eyed.

Grade - A

2nd best Pixar movie. It didn't wow me like WALL-E did (could it be that Pixar has spoiled me so much that it just can't wow me anymore?), but it packs a lot more fun and emotional punch. The action and humor were spot on and the emotional scenes, especially the incinerator, were...wow. Top-notch writing from start to finish.

Oh, Pixar...

P.S. I hate that all my friends who have seen it told me they cried in the end, because I came in expecting to cry in the end, but didn't. That was disappointing.

I had that same impression but it was based on comments on the first page of this thread. I stopped after chip said he was bawling...big baby.

Anyway, I only got teary eyed.

See like Eventine, I expected to choke up at the end but I didnt come close. I certainly was touched by it, but I found it more to be a bitter sweet happy ending so I was actually smiling.

I actually teared up for the start of Up - that was brutal!

How was TS3 in 3D for anyone who saw it? Was it worth it? Did it pop out at you when you expected it too?

I tried to do TS1 and 2 in 3d but could only sit through 1 before I gave up and left.

I need to see it a second time before really giving it a solid grade.

My first time was a bit biased because of two guys laughing like idiots, and when I say idiots, I mean it.

And though I knew Lotso was villainous beforehand, I still didn't like his character. Too similar to Stinky Pete. They should not have gone with that accent for him. Completely wrong choice IMO.

The incinerator scene was heart-wrenching and I really thought they would end up burnt and was prepared to tear up there, but then they were saved and the real ending, while touching, wasn't bawl-worthy. Kind of like the Wall-E pseudo-death, heck, Pixar seem to put that a lot now, Russell's father abandoning him was also kind of sad even if Carl was there.

The best film I have seen this year so far.

There were some flaws but were easily made up by the last hour. It brought everything to the table: humour, story, action. The new characters were all awesome especially Ken and Lotso. I never would have expected that they would put this much humour in it but the whole audience was laughing all the way through.

This was an excellent way to wrap up the trilogy.

9.8/10 -> 10/10 (since I don't like decimal points when giving out scores unless if it's .5)

By the way, this was the first movie I've been to where the audience clapped at the end of the movie. I think that speaks for itself of how well audiences here will receive the movie. Fantastic film through and through.

ok

i didnt cry at my 7th viewing

still love it though

i think this is the first pixar film since rat. that didnt have any part of it that annoyed me (loved all of their work though)

i mean, wall-e was brilliant and all but that second half, certainly didnt live up to what i was anticipating

up is very touching, well minus the villain and his talking dogs.. yikes
