Re: The Official FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 thread (Prediction Time!)
The group form doesn't really mean much though, and the best looking team from the group stage rarely goes all the way. It's still all about survive and advance. Brazil in 2002 and Germany in 1990 are the two teams from my World Cup watching experience where you could say they consistently performed the best from beginning to the end.

Well, if you have to lose one game let it be the first one and not the last one. If Spain gets eliminated, I will root for England or Holland. I will hold my judgment about Germany until I see them playing a stronger team than Australia. I hope Switzerland wins now against Chile and Honduras, so that they and Spain pass to the next round. Don't you agree, FILMO?

Well, Uruguay looked pretty good in this game, and South Africa indeed appears to be the worst host team ever.

Re: The Official FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 thread (Prediction Time!)
I dont think current german team has the class of 1990 team. I dont think they are even in Top 3 this time around. they are kind of team who will do well against mediocre opponents and lose in knock out against a good opponent.
they could potentially meet england in 2nd round. that should be a good game.

Screw that. Nigeria is out. Bad WC for Africa so far Argentina-South Korea was great.

Re: The Official FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 thread (Prediction Time!)
South Korea actually played fine, especially in the first part of the second half; had a golden opportunity at an equalizer that could've changed the complexity of the game. Still, quite impressed with Argentina except for their defensive line. Messi definitely has been the best player of the tournament so far and has pretty much done everything except for scoring a goal due to goalkeeper's performance and some bad luck.
11 goals have been scored in the first three games of the second go-around. Players are getting used to the ball and atmosphere, and the games are getting quite better too.
With Greece's somewhat surprising victory, it means we still have no team officially eliminated or advanced.
Africa is having a terrible WC so far, while South American teams are doing great.

Re: The Official FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 thread (Prediction Time!)
Wait.....isnt Nigeria already out? If they would win against Korea and Greece looses......Nigeria and Greece each have 3 points and Greece won the direct competition match. So Greece goes next round behind Argentina?

FILMO wrote: Wait.....isnt Nigeria already out? If they would win against Korea and Greece looses......Nigeria and Greece each have 3 points and Greece won the direct competition match. So Greece goes next round behind Argentina? Nope, Korea will also have 3 points, and the three teams would have beaten each other round-robin style, so they will have to go to goal differential, which actually favors Nigeria since they lost both games by 1 goal, while both Greece and Korea have had larger defeats. On the other hand, if Greece beats Argentina by 2 or more goals and Korea routs Nigeria, Argentina may not go through since those three teams will all have 6 points. So Argentina still has to be focused and play first-team players.
