THe management of that theatre must have put the movie in too small a room. I'm assuming you don't know how many seats those sell-outs are in. THere's only one sell-out here in NYC, where the original run of the play sold-out every show for weeks. I honestly expect this movie to do very well tonight and then have a very low internal mult between the rush-outs and Oscars on Sunday...and the fact that the movie is really bad. I could see a potential $11 million opening this weekend if it does sell-ou a lot tonight but it will crash and burn after that.

Black people don't watch the Oscars.

What makes Chris funny is the truth within his jokes.

The black people who are scheduling their weekends around this film, aren't scheduling Sunday night around the Oscars. Even with multiple nominations for black actors, the show doesn't create a sense of urgency within the black community.

Today:

CURSED
5:30pm
Cinemark Woodhill Movies 10
85% full (great for this time of day, more than HIDE AND SEEK and BOOGEYMAN)

Trailers: A Lot Like Love, Guess Who, The Amityville Horror, The Ring Two, Hostage, Sin City

Crowd Reaction: I am honestly not joking when I say the crowd loved it. There were lots of laughs at the comedic moments and tons of screams and gasps throughout. There was a lot of chatter coming out and everyone was talking about how much fun they had.

I LOVED CURSED. It didn't disappoint me at all, and even exceeded my already high expectations. The best film of 2005 thus far.

9/10 (A)

What is this "Lets get in the minds of a Mad Black Generic Audience" thread?

No no no; its unfair to say that black people wouldnt watch the oscars..thats judging people's tastes as a whole on a sterotype of urban african americans, black people do have jobs, live in the suburbs and enjoy movies as well you know....

I think what has made Black Woman such a big hit [or so it seems] is that its marketed itself with a double side. The trailer i found to be very well done ; the website too [as i commented] the first posters were very resounding, contemplative and dramatic.

But then they started pushing this slapstick Big Momma image of a man in an old woman's drag - that successfully has pulled in a fair old chunk of that audience too.

I dont think its legs will be great if the latter is the truth.

Spanglish
150 Seater at 3.00pm
ODEON KILMARNOCK
[First Day of UK Release]
3% Full [5 People] Not good at all - that said it was the earliest showing of the movie of the day, on a Friday when the target auds are working.

Inspite of a terrible turnout for the first day, Spanglish was great. Should be a leggy release.

Cursed

1:00 p.m.
AMC Southlake 24
15% full (500+ seat theater)

Trailers: The Devil's Rejects, Guess Who, The Amityville Horror, The Ring Two, Hostage, Sin City

With as much trouble as this film went through to get released, it really didn't turn out that bad. It is far from perfect, with quite a few horror cliches being evident throughout the film. The CGI-werewolf transitions are also somewhat dissapointing. Other then that though, it is quite enjoyable. Well written and fairly good performances from the main cast.

7.0/10 (B+)

It looks like I probably underestimated Man of the House. An $11-13M opening, perhaps.

This was one crazy Friday night....

We sold out Mad Black for every show past 7 ( i would also like to note 85% of the customers were adults, thus higher ticket price) .....

7:05 - 485 people
7:40 - 512 people
9:40 - 500 people
10:15 - 511 people

Man of the house

7:20 - 90% full
9:45 - 80% full

Cursed

7:45 - 50% full
10:20 - 75% full

I never would have guessed in a million years this POS would have done this good (Mad woman that is)

Combined with HSX reports, look like Dairy may just win the weekend outright. $20M is certainly in play now, especially with all the 600-seater selling out.

And BLACK WOMAN will succeed. How typical

I'm still hoping for CURSED. It deserves to do well.

Cursed seems to be the more popular pick over Man of the House. I think that Diary could easily garner a second place opening if the pace continues with Constantine and then Cursed in #'s 3 and 4.

I honestly think it's great that a little film people weren't really expecting to do all that well will indeed score, rather than some "typical" horror film like Cursed.

Cursed
AMC Granite Run 8
9:15PM, 400 seats, Sold Out

Trailers
The Amityviller Horror (great reaction; looks awesome)
The Ring Two (lots of talking; only three more weeks thank god)
Unleashed (silence; looks good)
Hostage (whispers; looks good)
Sin City (whispers; can't wait)
Fever Pitch (laughs; I'll wait till DVD, probably)

The movie got great reactions throughout the movie. Lots of laughs, lots of scares (surprisingly), lots of fun.

Movie
After this movie became a PG-13, I set myself up for a dissapointment. Especially since I saw Boogeyman, I lost all faith in the PG-13 horror. I'm happy to say that Cursed revived my hope. Wes Craven truly is a genius when it comes to teen horror flicks. This movie was very entertaining. It had the right amount of everything. Huge laughs, cheesy love story, nice amount of werewolf time, and suspense. The cast did a fairly good job for a horror movie, so that was surprising. The one thing about this movie that made me mad was the PG-13, though. This movie would have been excellent if freakin' Dimesions would have left it an R. I would have loved to see the werewolfs rip apart people instead of just sounds, and then cut to the next scene. THAT pissed me off. Other than that, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and it's definently a huge step up from Boogeyman. It's better than most of the horror movies I've seen so far in 2005, actually. It's no Scream, but it's a nice substitute. B

I find that incessantly humorous considering that Wes Craven actually disowned this movie.
