 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
Thing is in Canada, if the men don't win gold, many Canadians will see the games as a failure.
However that was such an overwhelming victory, I think the Americans did a favour by beating Canada. Really the extra game as allowed them to really combine as a solid team.
solid performances, expect more medals especially Gold Medals. Canada looks to get 10 Gold medals for sure.

Bullshit. I think the games have already been a success for Canada, all things considered. The hockey gold would be the icing on the cake, but that doesn't mean there's no cake without it. An incredibly easy victory over Russia today, I was pleased. But the big story today were Canada's women, who once again came through for us as they've always done. Clara Hughes is my idol.

They have a point. For seasoned Olympic watchers, they look past men's hockey at the overall picture. But for most people, gold in men's hockey = 10 gold in everything else...

And in the hockey semi-finals, Canada will play... Slovakia. Weeeeird. Canada knocked Russia out, and Sweden just lost to Slovakia. Two strong teams already out. This is an odd medal round for me.
Peace, Mike

 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
Canada has to just continue thier game and they should be fine.
They should play this game all out, they have a day in between to rest now between games.
Looks like it will be Canada - US, and I think that would be for the best.

I don't think anyone else can match their talent. I don't know why people look past Sweden. Well this was short lived... Congrats to Canada! Desperation + Skill = GOLD

 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
Yeah, the women really delivered this year. AMAZING. So well deserved for Kim and Joannie and everyone else.
Also congrats to women's hockey! Third gold in a row for Canada!!!
I'm fucking pissed at the Cdn aerial skier. He was way ahead after the first jump and then fucked up and finished 5th in total. How do you mess up a lead of over 6 points and deliver the second worst jump? Ridiculous.
Anyway, congrats to the Cdn women, who once again deliver!

 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
That was arguably the best figure skating final I've ever seen. Kim's performance was sublime; I'm not sure what else to say, as it simply gave me chill as the performance unfolded. And both Mao and Joannie delivered as well to complete a story-book podium for the ages. Finally Nagasu finished the night off on a high note; I love seeing her skate. What a night!

 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
I agree. That final group was skated as cleanly as I've ever seen for a major competition. No falls, only a couple step outs.
I wasn't happy about the downgrades for Flatt because her flips looked good to me.
Good for YuNa winning the gold and unfortunately not even Mao had a chance after that free skate.

I don't know why Mao Asada looked pissed, she could not match Kim's performance never...

 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
Definitely the best skating competition I've ever seen. I can't think of any gold medal as well deserved as Kim's. She was astonishing.

Mandeep wrote: I don't know why Mao Asada looked pissed, she could not match Kim's performance never... She's an incredibly talented teenager who's been forced to live in the shadow of someone else for the entirety of her young career. That's a terrible place to be. Also, I'm sure she was under a lot of pressure from the Japanese media and public to perform. I hope Asada continues to improve and become a stronger skater in the future. Competition is always a healthy thing, and it will only lead to a better sport. Also, I think the Americans for the first time in a long time have some really strong talent coming up. Those girls are going to be amazing in 2014. Good luck to them!

Normally I would go for Slovakia, the land of my ancestors, but USA v. Canada round 2 is just too promising. Go Canada!

 Re: Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics
I've completely lost interest in this game and have changed the channel. Pathetic. I hope Slovakia pulls off a better effort against Canada. Such one-sided games are never, ever good for anyone.

Man, oh, man, Kiprusoff. I'm not sure why he suddenly sucks this game. Terrible, especially that first goal. That was a huge mistake; big mistakes like that can open the floodgates for the other team and ruin the game.
Peace, Mike

Nice, China won the bronze in women curling. Wished they could have won a gold in freestyle, but overall a very successful Olympics so far.

I'm genuinely devastated. ARGH, Bernard had two chances to grab that gold. I'm really upset.
