Wow, this game is getting tight. Yankees are leading, but the Angels are not giving up.

Oh well, maybe next year. Even without those errors, we still would have lost. Oh well, we gave it a good shot, but not enough to match the money and roids.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Okay, I hate the Yankees as much as the next Red Sox fan or anyone with a heart does, but what just happened between Posada and Rivera was kind of cool. The two hand whiff by Girardi? Not so much.
Good effort by the Angels, but that first game really set the tone for the series. Even in the games they won, they never seemed to be in control at any point.
Next series is gonna be great though, if the Phillies starters show up.

Yeah lady, it's called spending fucking money. I could've done a great job running the Yankees this year.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
I agree, the Angels were not at their best in this series. But at least they gave us one memorable year. Interesting irony here is that the Angels broke the Boston playoff curse as the Yankees broke the Angels playoff curse. Game one should be an interesting pitchers duel (CC and Lee). Funny to mention that both starting pitchers for game one not both won AL Cy Youngs in sucessive years, but both did it with Cleveland.
On Wedesday, it's Brotherly Love vs. Money and Roids.

It is just the yanks have more longer term players. And if money is the final answer, how did the red sox lose to tampa in 2008. PS. On the game. Angels were lucky as I think the yanks had 2 or more on in each of the early innings but couldn't score. Until a big hit by damon. And nice to see Joba come through and not get bombed. And I think this is the better WS as the angels would have gotten beaten pretty easily. So now it is CC vs Lee for 3 games probably. And arod/jeter/teixeira vs lee. And howard/worth and others vs CC.

And if money is the final answer, how did the red sox lose to tampa in 2008. 2009 MLB Payroll (Top 10) New York Yankees -- $201,449,189New York Mets -- $149,373,987 Chicago Cubs -- $134,809,000 Boston Red Sox -- $121,745,999Detroit Tigers -- $115,085,145 Los Angeles Angels -- $113,709,00 Philadelphia Phillies -- $113,004,046 Houston Astros -- $102,996,414 Los Angeles Dodgers -- $100,414,592 Seattle Mariners -- $98,904,166 Yep. Equal. And when did I say money was the final answer? I'm not complaining that they spend money. For most of this decade they've pretty much wasted everything they've spent. They were bound to get it right one year (so far).

They were bound to get it right one year (so far). If you think 8 out of 9 playoffs are a waste, you are a jerk or a fool. And with all those playoffs, that is how they can keep on spending the money. An dlets look at the Red Sox, that pay a 50 million posting fee, more than anyone, an dsend manny to the dodgers and pay his 7 million salary for 2 months, and signed Drew for what 14 milion. Granted the Yanks are higher than other but that is because the Yanks pay a premimum for players to stay longer with the Yanks or for long term service. Players like Jeter and Petitte and Riviera are overpaid cause they are making a lifetime committment to the Yanks. and AROD is similar to Dice and they are paying him money to become the home run king. To me any player over 10 million should be expected to be great...so anything over 100 million team salaries are pretty much the same.

Less than what the Yankees have spent over the last five years combined? Did we forget about inflation? Quote: PS. Can tell you aren't much of a businessman. That hurts Goldie. Again and let me make it clear. I'm not criticizing the Yankees. They have the money. They're allowed to spend it in anyway shape or form.

I could've done a great job running the Yankees this year. >>>> Not true or as easy as it looks. anyway, whatever as the Yankees are on their way to the WS. Also above, you only list the costs...but lets look at this year, The Yanks spent 80 Million more than the Red Sox. but how much more did they make by putting 10,000 more people on average into their stadium or 800,000 people. And then how much more are they going to make by going deep into the playoffs...as I think they own their own tv network and thus the advertising revenues.

Anyway, as a Red Sox fan are you saying that the only thing that matters is if you win a World Series? For all the teams that are in the top ten in terms of payroll, I'd say so, in terms of on field performance. In terms of making a profit, just as long as you're getting asses in the seats and getting them to buy food and drinks, selling merchandise, ad revenue, TV, radio, etc. not so much. But from a fan perspective, absolutely.
