Dr. Lecter wrote: The numbers was Up are solid, but Germany's a big disappointment. I hope Japan can make up for that. In any case looks like $600 million worldwide will happen, though probably barely.
Inglourious Basterds is huge overseas for a Tarantino flick! Mark it down for $300+ million worldwide.
The Final Destination is a real winner too. With New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Italy, Spain and a few more ahead, there's no way it won't pass $100 million overseas. In fact it'll become the first straight-up horror movie to cross $100 million OS since The Ring! I see it finding its way to $170 million or so worldwide.
District 9 might not be the huge break-out overseas that it is in the US, but $200+ million still seems pretty certain.
The Ugly Truth's run overseas is pretty good too. It has a slow roll-out, but with markets like Germany, Spain, Italy and Japan ahead, it should have little problem crossing $100 million OS and might actually pass $200 million worldwide too. I don't see Up just barely getting past Wall-E overseas at this point. It's already done far better in France/Spain and should hopefully match it dollar-wise in Germany. I think $350m could be achievable.

No mention of The Founding of a Republic, probably because the numbers weren't available yet when the articles were written.

"With four titles generating nearly $34 million, Disney dominated the foreign circuit on the weekend with "Up" leading a largely slow-moving pack by bringing in $12.3 million from 3,700 screens in 25 territories, pushing its total offshore boxoffice gross to $215 million and its worldwide tally to $507.3 million.
Playing overseas since May 29, "Up" has run a marathon race that suddenly turned into a sprint. The weekend was the second consecutive stanza that the Pixar animated title has finished No. 1 on the foreign circuit. It opened in first place in Norway, and remained No. 1 in holdovers in Germany and Australia.
Opening No. 2 -- as it did in its domestic debut -- was Disney's sci-fi thriller "Surrogates," starring Bruce Willis, which drew $12.2 million from 1,590 screens in 10 markets sparked by a strong first-place ranking in Russia ($5 million from 550 locations). No. 2 openings were registered in the U.K. ($1.6 million from 356 sites) and in Spain ($2.2 million from 275 locations).
In the U.K., MGM's musical update "Fame" opened a dominant No. 1 with an estimated gross of $4.3 million drawn from 460 sites for a solid per-screen average of $9,348.
Finishing third on the weekend was the Weinstein Co./Universal's "Inglourious Basterds," which nabbed $7.5 million from 2,800 locations in 41 territories for an international total of $128.9 million. The global tally for director Quentin Tarantino's World War II drama stands at $243.3 million, which is expected to rise to $250 million by the coming weekend.
No. 4 was "District 9," the sci-fi drama being handled by Sony and local distributors overseas. Its weekend tally from all territories came to $6.1 million for an international cume to date of $56.7 million.
Tied for fifth was "The Ugly Truth," Sony's romantic comedy with Katherine Heigl, which came up with $5.8 million from 2,190 screens in 51 territories for a cume of $55 million. Disney's Jerry Bruckheimer-produced animation outing "G-Force" pushed its international cume to $93.2 million also thanks to a $5.8 million weekend at 2,147 sites in 35 markets.
New Line/Warners' "The Final Destination" scared up $5.5 million from 2,370 locations in 37 markets for a cume (from all distributors) of $83.8 million. Sony's subway action drama "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" nudged its overseas cume to $70 million thanks to a $5.3 million weekend at 2,440 screens in 47 territories.
Sony's "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," an animation title about food falling from the sky, drew $4.9 million in its second overseas weekend, lifting its early overseas cume to $13.3 million.
Disney's fourth film out overseas, "The Proposal," a romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock, opened No. 1 in France ($2.1 million from 310 sites) and generated $3.6 million overall from 1,600 screens in 37 territories for a cume of $140.8 million.
20th Century Fox's "(500) Days of Summer" lifted its cume to $9.9 million after a $2.6 million weekend at 681 sites in seven markets. Fox's hugely successful "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" moved its overseas cume to $681.2 million thanks to a $2.4 million weekend at 1,984 screens in 14 markets.
In France, Pathe's "L'affaire farewell," a Cold War thriller from director Christian Carion, opened No. 2 with $1.7 million from 474 locations. Another local-language newcomer was Wild Bunch Distribution's "Le dernier pour la route," a drama from director Philippe Godeau, which bowed at No. 6 with $775,00 from 234 dates. TFM's long-running comedy "Neuilly sa mere" has a market cume of $18.2 million over seven stanzas.
Other international cumes: Universal's "Funny People," $14 million; Warners' "The Hangover," $182.3 million; Sony's "Julie & Julia," $8.3 million; Paramount's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," $150 million; Universal's "De Storm," $1.7 million (from the Netherlands and Belgium); Fox's "Aliens in the Attic," $27 million; Universal's "9," $5.4 million (in eight Universal territories only); Fox's "Jennifer's Body," $936,036 (from openers in Spain, Puerto Rico and Iceland); Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," $193.3 million; and DreamWorks/Universal's "The Soloist," $2.3 million. Re: Intl. Box-Office: Up stands at $215 million overseas!
Thats a huge start in the UK for Fame! It could do really well overseas. Looks to make around $12-13M alone from the UK.
Surrogates opened here this weekend? I never knew.
GI Joe is only $2.5M away from passing $300M worldwide.
Huge for TFD. Almost $150M worldwide.

Anyone know where HP6 stands? It wasn't included in THR article today, and BOM INTL is still having problems.

They've updated some markets I've noticed, but are still 3 weeks behind with them as well.

Re: Intl. Box-Office: Up stands at $215 million overseas!
Quote: SCREEN DAILY NUMBERS
Disney/Pixar’s Up led Hollywood’s international pack at the weekend with a $12.3m estimated gross that raised the tally to $215.4m with the UK to come on October 9.
In a strong weekend for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International (WDSMPI) that saw its four key titles generated close to $35m, Up raised its worldwide running total to more than $500m.
The animated hit held on to number one in its second weekend in Germany after a mere 10% drop added $4.3m from 880 for $10.7m heading into two weeks of school holidays.
Up stayed top for the fourth consecutive weekend in Australia, adding $3.1m from 273 after a 6% climb to bring the tally to $13.4m. The film ranked number one in Norway on $825,000 from 46, and was in a tight race with Sony’s The Ugly Truth to close the weekend as the top title in Brazil for the fourth weekend in a row as $857,000 from 320 boosted the tally to $8.1m. Up is gonna do "Incredibles" numbers in Australia. It's already passed Ratatouille there and will pass Wall-E this week.

Okay, so The Final Destination is simply huge overseas. At this point it is reasonable to expect it to outgross The Ring overseas ($120.2 million) to become the highest-grossing horror film overseas since...I suppose Signs if you count it as horror. Otherwise it'd be since What lies Beneath. It stands at $85 million overseas, still playing well in several markets and has biggies like Mexico, Spain, Italy, South Korea and Japan ahead. I think $180 million worldwide is assured and it might scratch at $200 million even, though I don't think it'll pass it. Something like $190 million sounds right. Amazing considering the biggest film in the franchise so far has made around $113 million WW!
Inglourious Basterds is another one that is huge overseas. I still fully expect it to pass $300 million worldwide.
Up has rebounded somewhat in Germany, but probably still won't pass WALL-E in admissions (however maybe in box-office thanks to 3D). Final worldwide gross looks to be around $600 million).
The Ugly Truth is going pretty strong and I'm sure it'll be pretty successful in Germany where it is coming out tomorrow. I think $200 million worldwide is still within reach.
The Proposal has also done well overseas, but not on the same level of break.-out as it managed in the USA. However, it has passed $300 million worldwide now and should settle for around $315-320 million which is of course great.
Despite falling clearly short of that in the States, overseas Wolverine has just overtaken X2: X-Men United's total!

BTW, after two weeks, Up is trailing WALL-E by around 34% in terms of admissions and about 19% in terms of gross. Not too terrific, IMO.

Sparked by solid openings in eight territories, Sony's "The Ugly Truth" took the No. 1 spot on the international circuit this weekend, grossing $12.1 million from 2,385 screens in 54 markets and hoisting its overseas total thus far to $70.8 million.
The biggest of the fresh territories for the romantic comedy co-starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler was Germany, where the first-place weekend tally was reported by Sony as $5.4 million from 507 sites. An Austria opening produced another No. 1 ranking with $820,000 from 88 screens. "Truth" also finished first in German-speaking Switzerland, Taiwan, Hungary and Vietnam.
By exploiting a traditionally soft release period on the foreign circuit, Disney nearly dominated weekend action for the second consecutive round with four titles generating nearly $30 million, including No. 2-ranked "Surrogates," which grossed $11.4 million from 2,251 screens in 25 territories.
The sci-fi thriller starring Bruce Willis finished first in eight of the markets it played, with fresh territories contributing $5 million to the weekend total. It remained No. 1 in Russia for the second straight weekend ($2.2 million from 625 sites for a cume of $8.9 million), was the top-ranked U.S. title in Korea ($2.5 million from 250 sites) and opened in first place in Mexico ($851,000 from 325 spots).
"Surrogates' " international cume stands at $28.4 million, with the worldwide tally at $54.8 million.
Pixar/Disney's "Up," which had been the foreign circuit's No. 1 title for the prior two weekends, finished a close No. 3 this round, with $10.6 million generated from 3,579 locations in 27 territories, pushing its overseas cume to $231 million.
The animation title concluded a fifth straight weekend as the No. 1 film in Australia, and set a record for a Pixar title in Denmark by grossing $1 million from just 90 locations. Openings in the Benelux, Finland and the U.K. are up this coming weekend.
Fourth on the weekend with a gross of $8.6 million from 2,984 locations in 45 markets was the Weinstein Co./Universal's "Inglourious Basterds." The Quentin Tarantino World War II drama opened strongly in Italy with $3 million drawn from 337 screens. International cume now stands at $141.5 million with a worldwide tally so far of $258.5 million.
Finishing No. 5 was "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," Sony's animation title about food falling from the sky, which cooked up $7.1 million from 1,920 locations in 31 markets, pushing its overseas cume to $21.9 million. Openings in a half dozen markets were highlighted by No. 1 bows in Colombia, Brazil and Peru.
Notable on the weekend was the stellar performance of the French-language title "Le Petit Nicolas" (Little Nicolas), which dominated in its France opener with an estimated $6.7 million drawn from 520 screens. The Wild Bunch Distribution release directed by Laurent Tirard is a live-action film based on the popular children's book set in the 1950's and created by Rene Goscinny with illustrations by Sempe.
Universal opened the Ricky Gervais comedy "The Invention of Lying" in the U.K. and Ireland for $2.9 million from 367 screens, sufficient for a firm No. 2 spot in the U.K. Finishing first in the U.K. for the second straight weekend was Lakeshore Ent./MGM's musical update "Fame," which tallied an estimated $4.5 million.
Disney's "G-Force" muscled its way passed the $100-million mark overseas ($100.7 million) on the back of a $5.3 million weekend at 2,221 sites in 36 markets. Sci-fi drama "District 9," being handled by Sony and other distribs, drew $4.9 million on the weekend and raised its cume to $65.4 million, of which $49.8 million was bagged in Sony territories.
"The Final Destination," being handled overseas by Warners and other distribs, registered $4.6 million from 2,318 screens in 42 markets, lifting its international total to $90.3 million. Sony's subway thriller "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" lifted its foreign take to $75.7 million thanks to a $3.3 million weekend at 2,050 screens in 41 markets.
Finishing as the top U.S. title in France for the second consecutive weekend was Disney's "The Proposal," starring Sandra Bullock, which generated $2.4 million overall on the weekend from 1,206 locations in 34 markets. A No. 2 finish in France yielded $1.3 million from 323 sites.
In the Netherlands, Focus Features/Universal's "De Storm," a drama about a disastrous 1953 flood in the Dutch coastal provinces, finished No. 1 for the third straight weekend, and has realized a cume of nearly $3 million in the market and in Belgium so far.
No. 3 in France was "L'affaire farewell," a Cold War thriller from director Christian Carion, which drew an estimated $1.2 million in its second round at 457 screens. No. 6 was the hit comedy "Neuilly Sa Matre," which grabbed $750,000 from 430 sites for an eight-week cume of $19.7 million.
Other international cumes: Fox's "Jennifer's Body," $2.9 million (after $1.8 million on the weekend from 849 screens in eight territories); Universal's "Funny People," $15.8 million; Fox's "Aliens in the Attic," $29.3 million; Warner's "The Hangover," $184.3 million; Fox's "(500) Days of Summer," $11.4 million; and Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," $194.5 million. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/con ... 5482e19972__________________________________________________________________________________

It's a terrific number for The Ugly Truth! It'll pass $100 million OS from holdovers alone. Considering it also has Spain and Italy and a few smaller markets left, $200+ million worldwide is guaanteed. In fact $210-220 million is actually possible.
The Final Destination is holding up well with still several major markets to come. $200 million WW is not out of question anymore and I'd say it's a lock for $190 million at least.
Up is doing fine, but it doesn't seem to be as much of a break-out overseas generally as it is in the US. With UK, Italy and Japan left, it still looks good for around $630 million worldwide or so.
Inglourious Basterds is going to pass $300 million worldwide...not bad at all.
Surrogates looks like it'll redeemd itself somewhat overseas. It still has Spain, Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Italy, France and many others ahead, so $150+ million WW is likely.

Hmm, this website reports an increase in admissions for Up in Germany this weekend: http://www.mediabiz.de/film/news/d-gedr ... tze/280391430,000 vs. 380,000 last weekend. The Screen Daily report says its down -17% in USD, though ($3.6m vs. $4.3m). One of them must be wrong. Unless it just lost a bunch of 3D theaters? Either way its hold in Australia and opening in Denmark are really strong. It could actually challenge Nemo ($26.8m) in the former market.

Well, I also read about the increase which seems quite likely actually given the not-so-good weather and a national holiday on Saturday (making Friday pretty much a second Saturday).

Oh man, just look at Fame's performance in UK! http://www.nytimes.com/indexes/2009/09/ ... index.html26% down in its second week, #1 two weeks in a row. How come? Did Mamma Mia! put that country into musical craziness? Oh and The Final Destination is absolutely humongous there as well for a horror flick (and isn't it rated 18 there?). It has beaten The Proposal, District 9 and Inglourious Basterds already.

Re: Intl. Box-Office: The Ugly Truth is #1 overseas!
No, The Final Destination is a 15 here in the UK.
But i'm not shocked, FD3 was huge here too and My Bloody Valentine was big, so i knew, 3D horror + Final Destination franchise = massive hit in UK.
Fame is mad! it's doing great here. It's got Up this weekend though, so it's reign will be over.
Btw...Rec2 opened at Number 1 in Spain to $3,212,888. Biggest opening of the year so far according to Boxoffice.es. I think they mean biggest opening for a spanish film though.
