I know that many KJ'ers here are big fans of The Soup and Joel McHale like myself and are greatly anticipating his new show Community which premieres this Thursday, September 17 on NBC. I love the premise and just love the cast as a whole. Hopefully this can do well on NBC standards with a good 7-8M each week.
So discuss the show here.

I'll give it a try. I like the cast but am kind of skeptical about the premise. What are they going to do after 2 years when most of them should have graduated?
By the way I won't be creating threads for shows this season so if you guys want threads for office, 30 rock and whatever I used to make - just don't wait for me to do it is what I'm saying.

I have a feeling the show will be one of those shows where there really is no set time progession in the storyline (so like A. G. was wondering about what they are going to do in 2 years when they should graduate, there won't need to be that worry really).

That was really funny! Especially for a pilot episode.
I am almost completely in love with Joel McHale and he didn't disappoint. And the supporting cast is really strong. Will definitely keep watching, I hope it can get some respectable ratings in the 6-8 million range.

Re: Community- Season 1
It was okay, though it seemed like the funniest bits had already been shown in the commercials. So I'll tune in for the next episode to see how it stands without having seen anything from it.
As a graduate of a community college, I'm not entirely sure I like the seemingly disparaging view of community colleges, though it's possible that's something that will be dealt with as the show progresses.
That said, the diversity represented definitely brought back memories.
As for them graduating in two years... hahahaha. I can maybe see Abed (?) graduating in the normal amount of time with his seeming to be sponge for information, but the rest? They remind me more of a couple of my friends who began when I did, and five years later, STILL do not have their two-year degree.
And with a majority of the characters on this show being older, and at least one being a parent, I can see them possibly being only half-time-or-less students. Which means it'll take them longer than two years to achieve a degree.

Ya it was pretty meh. Joel McHale was pretty unlikeable so far, hopefully that will be their #1 priority to improve. I did like Abed's speech from The Breakfast Club.

I'm in agreeance with Libs, the premiere was hilarious!
Joel fits the role well and I can feel that Chevy Chase is just going to be all kinds of awesome in the show.

"I was raised on television and thus was made to believe that all black women over 50 are cosmic mentors."
"You remind me of myself when I was younger." "I deserved that."

The pilot was a bit irritating (the main guy came off as too unlikeable and too self-absorbed, and not in good Gregory House-like way). But I liked the ending. And it had a few cool one liners.
The Breakfast Club jokes were lame though, but the credits gave away what was all that about. I'll give it a few more shots. It's better than NBC's last year comedy entry pilots - Kath & Kim and Parks and Recreation.

Arrrmmm. The second episode was bad. There were a few good jokes, but it was bad. It felt like one of those numerous FOX sitcoms that try too hard to be funny.

The second episode was pretty mediocre, but that presentation set to "Wise Up" was an extraordinary piece of TV hilarity. Of god I was dying.
If John Wick 2 even makes 30 million I will eat 1,000 shoes.
Same.

I wasn't a huge fan of episode one, but thought episode 2 was pretty damn hilarious. On the merits of that episode alone, it is to 30 Rock what Parks and Recreation was supposed to be to The Office.
It's got great, clever one liners and a nice repertoire of idiosyncratic and funny characters - overall a yay from me. The presentation would've been enough to get me on board for a season, but then they went and threw this at the end:
That had me crying with laughter for some reason.

Re: Community- Season 1
Yeah this show's a winner. The first episode was so-so but the second was gold. If I had to pick a favorite moment, it's the part of the montage with the girl held hostage with the gag in her mouth and them paddling. Also love the new opening credits music and titles.
I'm sick of 30 Rock and was getting sick of The Office and about to drop it (about half a dozen episodes of the middle part of last season were really shitty and amateurish) but it is suddenly doing a lot better and feels more professionally made for some reason.
Parks and Recreation is strangely amateurish. It reeks of flop-sweat though I have to admit the hernia subplot was mildly amusing.
Better off Ted is a lot of fun and better than most shows but It looks likely to get canceled by the end of the season unless a miracle happens when it returns early next year.
And there you have more than you wanted to know about how I feel about current sitcoms.
