Ah. Dunno...not sure if I like it. Kinda pictured Ned differently. The look, stature, poise?
Big name though.

I pictured Ned as closer to Patrick Wilson with his Watchmen hair. Older though

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
I think Sean Been is an almost perfect choice. Even though I imagined Ned as a younger Liam Neeson when reading the books.
HBO is now 2 for 2 for excellent casting! Great news!

They said they were casting only others within the british actors guild or whatever, not necisarrily born and bred brits.

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
I think it's a really really good choice; he's got hard features to him which works well for Ned. I think i'm anticipating the tv series more so than the next novel which is never going to be released...

Neorstorm - yeah seems like it will never come out. Though apparently he's said that he is finishing up in Sept/Oct for an early 2010 release but weve heard that before.
The key casting choices from here on are Cersei, Jaime, Jon and Dany. Caitlyn isnt as important a choice but id prefer someone more fitting than Scully too. But she wouldnt be a disaster if chosen.

Oh and rumours Ray Winstone could be Robert Baratheon....would be an inspired choice!

Would love Ray Winstone as Robert ... casting so far has been superb.

All they need now is James Callis as Petyr Baelis. Hes the perfect brit for the role and his weasly turn in BSG shows why

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
They have cast a few more characters... Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon (so no Ray Winstone)... _elvis.jpg) Jack Gleeson (the kid from Batman Begins?) as Joffrey... Harry Lloyd as Viserys... Kit Harrington as Jon Snow... and Bean has been officially cast as Ned.

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
Not so sure about Mark Addy as Robert ... that's the first uninspired choice for me. He will certainly have the humor, but can he handle the rest of the personality?

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
Yeah im a bit iffy about Addy as well. Though I really havnt seen much of his work.
Most of the rest of the cast will be unkowns i suspect, bar perhaps a few surprises or cameos.

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
According to ONTD Jennifer Ehle has been added to the pilot "Game of Thrones" to play Catelyn. She apparently played the lead in the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. http://community.livejournal.com/ohnoth ... 79226.html

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
More casting: Quote: HBO is filling out the cast of its fantasy pilot "Game of Thrones" with the addition of former "New Amsterdam" star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and several others.
The group joins the previously cast lead Sean Bean as battle-weary Ned Stark, who leaves his home to serve the king. Mark Addy, Kit Harrington, Jennifer Ehle, Jack Gleeson, Peter Dinklage and Harry Lloyd also star.
In the adaptation of the George R.R. Martin fantasy-book series, Coster-Waldau will play Jaime Lannister, one of the king's guards and a ruthless usurper of the previous king. The actor, most recently seen in Ron Moore's Fox pilot "Virtuality," is repped by WME, Impression and Independent Talent Group.
Another addition is Tamzin Merchant (Showtime's "The Tudors"), who'll play Daenerys, an exiled teenage princess.
Also new to the cast: Richard Madden ("Hope Springs") as Stark's eldest son, Robb; Iain Glen ("Into the Storm") as Ser Jorah Mormont, a disgraced knight; Alfie Allen ("The Other Boleyn Girl") as Theon, Stark's young ward; Sophie Turner ("Doctor Who"), as Stark's eldest daughter, Sansa; Maisie Williams as Stark's young tomboy daughter, Arya.
The group joins the previously cast lead Sean Bean as battle-weary Ned Stark who leaves his home to serve the king, Mark Addy, Kit Harrington, Jennifer Ehle, Jack Gleeson, Peter Dinklage and Harry Lloyd.
HBO still has a few more roles to fill in the large ensemble cast of "Thrones," one of the more buzzed-about titles on the premium network's development slate. The pilot shoots in Ireland in October. Jaime Lannister: Dany: Robb:

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
I dont know much about Nikolaj' work and he is slightly older than what I picture Jaime to be. I havent seen the Tudors either so I dont know much about how good she would be as Danrys. She is quite attractive though.
It seems like everyone else is an unknown except for Sean Bean and to some extent Dinkage. I think for the upcoming seasons they probably will have more well known stars playing the roles of Stannis, Oberyn Martell and maybe Tyrell Lanister. Since they dont show up as often, I think its afforable for them since those characters have a huge presence and aura about them.

Re: HBO orders a pilot based on "A Game of Thrones"
Well, they're not unknown's, just not huge names either. The key is to keep the budget under control, as a balooning budget is what killed Rome.

Looks like Rory McCann may be the Hound ... the only big parts really left for now are Bran and Cersie.

George Martin is hinting that Lena Headly has been cast as Cersai. If its true, its a good choice. I never pictured her with blond hair though

Lena Heady is a fantastic choice! Only suspect choice is Dany. She doesn't look right.
