It's unfortunate, really. I hope there's a way to bring Ripper, makeshift, Squee and co. back. Now taking suggestions.

Re: Dr. Lecter and yoshue = your new moderators!
This is the e-mail I received (slightly edited at his request). However, because he never explicitly said "I'd like to turn down my moderator campaign" or "I'm leaving," I was sorta hoping he'd come back and left him in the race (bad call on my part ): roo wrote: Hi Ross,
Excuse spelling this is written on my phone (at a coffee shop! in a comfy chair!)
I think it is important to note that posters are only so powerful as the size of the community, and KJ's is shrinking.
In general I don't mind the conversation that is there now, but I mind what conversation is not there.
While we all like to be funny, the conversations are either jokes or flame wars, with very little in between. The asertion that "if we just let people aire their grivances they will get them out" has been proven wrong time and time again.
I think the job of moderation, despite all my past joking, really is a power that needs to be weilded at specific and appropriate times and with full participation of the parties. If the parties are unwilling to show growth, then they should be asked to leave.
No doubt things need to present a significant threat to the board, but what you are finding is that all these fools that make minor scuffles on a day to day basis add up to a general feeling of negativity and open hostility which gets boring and further diminishes the pool of dwindling users.
One of the reasons why I do like Argos, etc. is that his schtick points his finger at this and he is an uber parody of the people on the boards.
KJ is a dying community, sadly, and I have an easy relationship with a number of KJers on Facebook and other social networking sites where I can define my relationships without needing input from others. There I can keep track of Michael, Loyal, Raffiki, Mike V., Ripper, Gulli, Baba, Squee, and a host of others. It is not the boards, but it is no stress (my facebook is under my name if you want to add me).
If the board wishes to remain relavant then it needs to keep in mind that there are these other outlets and do its best to ensure that the family of KJ has an intervention and decide, for the good of the community, that it has value continuing as a friendly environment or increasingly becomes a site full of malcontents that have no collective purpose for communication other than the fact the are habitually addicted to web boards.
Cheers, Andrew

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that KJ is dying.

Re: Dr. Lecter and yoshue = your new moderators!
This is a forum. On the Internet. roo sounds like he thinks KJ should be like the place in THX 1138. I want MadGez to my mate partner, in that case.
EDIT: I felt like adding this.
There's always going to be people that really, really, really do not get along, and in a normal world, they wouldn't inhabit the same space. But both being a member on the same forum, will encounter problems, and will have to deal with one another. I don't think anyone on KJ is "damaging" to the forum as a whole. No one holds that much power, sorry to say, Michael.. I don't think any two people have such a problem it hurts and destroys KJ. And I don't believe roo actually feels that every "bad" person should be removed, I think he feels that way about one person. Corpse. Corpse is, basically, the cause jujubee, Ripper and etc. no longer post at KJ. If Corpse was politely asked to leave (and there wouldn't be anything polite about it in the first place, because if the request was denied, a ban would be handed out, wouldn't it?) then jujubee, Ripper, minneapple, etc. would come flooding back to KJ, as they did Rossino's forum when he created it, as for the first day or two, it was basically an exodus from KJ. This is why I think roo would've, ultimately, been a bad choice for moderator. He's a great person, he is. I get the spport he had. But he is unable to let anything go, it seems to me, when it comes to certain people. Aka, Corpse.
KJ is only dying, in roo's opinion, because the majority of roo's friends have left. Because of Corpse. Who'd he'd very much enjoy "politely" asking to leave.

I don't accept these moderators. It's either Argos and Jesus Christ or none at all. Thanks.

I told people I would bring Squee back if elected.
Obviously only Price/Korrgan/Scottie wanted him back.

I like that you only had 2 legitimate votes (considering Korr was just trying to fuck over everyone and you voted for yourself) and I only had 2 legitimate votes (Argos and friends were probably just being.....argos and friends) but I've been here a few months and you've been here several years. I think that may say something.

torrino, jujubee's, Omni's and Snurb's votes are invalid, for they have not posted ten times since July 1st.

It does not affect the results. (-1 for Corpse, -1 for yoshue, -2 for Lecter)

I actually like Roo's policy. I've been a supporter of removing the bad eggs since becoming an owner. But there has been lots of opposition.
I figure the same attitude that applies to "it's just a forum" should apply to lifetime bans "it's just a lifetime ban from a forum."
The only issue as I see it is the lifetime bans could become subjective. But from an administration standpoint, its farily clear who's detrimental to the forum's health.

I concur; that being said the user still needs a warning and then after the actual ban, a reason for why that action was taken. Or else we'll be seeing lifetime bans left and right.

The users in question have been warned and banned previously. There would be no real element of surprise. If your sole reason for existence on WoKJ is to create grief, it shouldn't be too shocking that you wake up one day without access, and a "so long and thanks for all the fish" email.
