Can't say it's a surprise, but Montreal was doing better lately. They even won last night!
Maybe Bob Gainey just wants all the accolades, a la Lou Lamoriello.
I think the thought process is that one win over a rather weak Dallas doesn't nullify a string of terrible losses, or such inconsistency. I mean, at the moment, the Canadiens are just getting by, but hardly playoff material.
I'm excited that Gainey is behind the bench! Last time this happened, it brought only good things. The Canadians managed to make the playoffs (thanks to Gainey's record), and they almost beat the eventual Cup winner (Carolina) in the first round of the playoffs. They were doing amazing until Carolina tried to massacre Koivu, sent him to the hospital, and the refs did nothing about it.
Everyone's buzzing about the big, huge, monumental win tonight...
I am talking about Pittsburgh's win tonight, 6-2, over Atlanta. It's amazing actually. They won seven straight, lost two in a shootout, then won two more. So they've received a point for the last eleven games I believe. Maybe more, my memory only extends so far. Their playoff chances look better by the day.
Oh, and some goalie beat Patrick Roy's all-time win record.

Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
How do you blow a two goal third period lead to the Kings? THE KINGS???
If John Wick 2 even makes 30 million I will eat 1,000 shoes.
Same.

Just looking back at season predictions

Tampa didn't work out but you have to admit the Boston and Montreal picks were epic
Pittsburgh lost today. It's their first loss in regulation time since Feb. 22nd. I really hope their lack of games coming up (they only have a handful left, whereas most teams have two or three more than Pittsburgh in the coming weeks leading to season's end) doesn't hurt them. They could go on a losing streak too.

And yet when you had the chance to jump on the Bruins bandwagon you joined the Maple Leafs.

EDIT - A lot
We are. Fernandez is just awful. We have a three goal lead right now and I still don't trust Fernandez to hold it although we are dominating right now.

Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
Bruins win again. And Fernandez finally pulled a good game out of his ass. Go figure. Flames lost last night though so the Bruins don't gain any ground on the Sharks. They do pull ahead of Detroit though into second.
Sharks final six: @ Edmonton (4/2), vs. Anaheim (4/4), @ Anaheim (4/5), vs. Colorado (4/7), vs. Phoenix (4/9), @ Los Angeles (4/11) Bruins final six: vs. Ottawa (4/2), vs. NY Rangers (4/4), @ Ottawa (4/7), vs. Montreal (4/9), @ Buffalo (4/11), @ NY Islanders (4/12) Red Wings final six: @ St. Louis (4/2), vs. Minnesota (4/5), @ Buffalo (4/6), vs. Nashville (4/9), vs. Chicago (4/11), @ Chicago (4/12)
The Sharks and Bruins pretty much have the same opponent strength while the Wings pretty much have to play a team trying for a playoff spot in each of their last six games.
It'd be nice if the Oilers could win for us on Thursday.
It'd be nice if the Oilers could win for us on Thursday.
It'd be nice if the Oilers could win for themselves ever.

A win is a win. Just get it.
As for the Bruins they won game number 50 tonight. It's the eighth time they've done it in team history. The last time that happened came in the '92-'93 season when they won 51. That team got swept out of the first round though so..... Yay!
Sharks final six: @ Edmonton (4/2), vs. Anaheim (4/4) , @ Anaheim (4/5), vs. Colorado (4/7), vs. Phoenix (4/9), @ Los Angeles (4/11) Bruins final six: vs. Ottawa (4/2), vs. NY Rangers (4/4) , @ Ottawa (4/7), vs. Montreal (4/9), @ Buffalo (4/11), @ NY Islanders (4/12) Red Wings final six: @ St. Louis (4/2), vs. Minnesota (4/5), @ Buffalo (4/6), vs. Nashville (4/9), vs. Chicago (4/11), @ Chicago (4/12)
If only the Bruins didn't have that third period collapse against the Sharks back in February.....
