 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
I follow hockey, bitch.
I would never consider Crosby to be one of the best players, though.
Especially not after punching that one dude in the sack.

Ovechkin is TEH BEST. No question.

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
The best player is...
wait for it...
Pavel Datsyuk
He's right there with them in offensive production (despite getting 19 minutes to their 22+, and killing more penalties), and he's like the best defensive forward in the league. He also clearly pooped on Sid/Malkin in the finals last year.

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
Pav is seven years older than Ovechkin. Sidney Crosby is like an arrogant, young Adam Oates. I don't get the hype. Ovechkin, on the other hand, is hilarious: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_d ... 31654&cp=3And Semin is even funnier: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_d ... nhl,130052How good will Tavares be?

Datsyuk is a better Ovechkin.
And Zetterberg is a better Crosby.
So...

How can you even compare them? Ovechkin shoots 2.2x more. Very different style.

He shoots more because the rest of his team doesn't.

Nevermind that Semin and Green are teammates and average more shots per game than Pav...
Haha.

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
Detroit averages 4 more shots per game than Washington. He doesn't need to shoot.
Datsyuk leads Ovechkin by 3% in the shooting percentage.
Higher quality.

Rangers fire their coach Renney. Leafs are now the coach executioners.

Why couldn't we do that in Florida?

7 straight overtime games for the Leafs. Ties Edmonton's NHL record

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
I stumble into this thread to find some anti-Crosby posts? Pfft.
Although I do find it amusing that Pittsburgh hits a four-game winning streak in the four games where he's absent. Like that whole stretch last year where he was out and Pittsburgh was one of the top five teams in the NHL.
Injured Crosby + New Coach = Pittsburgh Winning Streak
Hmm...
Crosby + Injury = Winning Streak
Hold on...
Crosby + A crowbar blow to the balls = Winning Streak
I always knew I was a math genius! Time to invest in a crowbar!

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
No one's talking about the trades?
Obviously Calgary made the biggest splash, but Edmonton had some solid moves too. Cole wasn't really working out, and they got a couple of younger, cheaper players instead. Of course, this could all backfire and they will end up missing the playoffs.
Surprised Bouwmeester didn't move, but I guess Florida figures they should play for now, seeing as they're in a playoff spot. Still, they're gonna regret it.

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
I honestly couldn't tell you who the best team in the league is right now.
Boston just lost to the Rangers, and they've been terribly inconsistent lately. San Jose has lost four in a row. Detroit got shelled at home by Columbus. New Jersey got rocked by the Islanders (!!!). Washington's slumping. Calgary got destroyed by Carolina.
Could it be... Vancouver? They've won four in a row, eight of their last ten, and just beat the Sharks last night. They're probably the hottest team right now, give or take a Pittsburgh.

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
I think it's Detroit or New Jersey or San Jose or Boston in that order. SJ gets hurt a bit by being girls in the playoffs last couple years. Boston's just not really trying right now though they might in the playoffs.

 Re: NHL 2008-2009 Season
Carbonneau's gone.
Can't say it's a surprise, but Montreal was doing better lately. They even won last night!
Maybe Bob Gainey just wants all the accolades, a la Lou Lamoriello.
