i switched the tv on later again and saw a woman reading poetry.

this is quite the fruity stuff.

Hopefully when Malia Obama becomes president in 2040, poetry would have been outlawed and the only music one is allowed to play legally is Radiohead's OK Computer.

Sounds good to me! (Well, maybe they can be allowed to play some Pink Floyd music too ... they have some instrumental stuff that's not fruity)

And I officially have to watch a re-run of the inauguration procedure. Bah, stupid internet connection. At least I get to read the text of his speech.

Anyone have a report on how many people showed up?

How many trained seals and sheep were there today rolling over for the nation to see? How embarrassing...

I had a response but it's not worth the energy. People who don't like Obama aren't going to start now.

I would not have taken you for a hardcore Republican Mav.

What would your response be? You finally have a President who is going to tend to your life so you don't have too? Good luck with that! :funny:

I'm not. That would mean I was a closet communist. I see that kind of thing here all the time, people passionately supporting a one party system, while blaming the evils of the world on the other. It's ridiculous.

I just know better than to buy what this clown is selling. He'll be more of the same, just watch. Broken promises, finger pointing, complacent, etc...

There weren't too many there for Bush's exit.

So all the Republicans who showed him good respects are sheep too I suppose. This is suppose a day of peaceful transition of power. If you don't like it go move to China.

They're dropping like flies. Thank god Barbara Bush got out when she did.

Hopefully they're ok. My mom commented to me that she thought Sen. Kennedy looked quite well before the inauguration ceremony.

Well Kennedy probably has 3-6 months to live. And Byrd is 180 years old. So ok is a bit subjective.

When is "ok" not subjective? Understandably both are on death's doorstep (perhaps at least knowingly a bit closer than the rest of us), but to see both in good conditions hours before they both collapsed illicits a sense of hope that they return to the supposedly decent-looking states they were in before the inauguration ceremonies.

Obama won't save the world and part the seas Moses style

But he won't be Bush

That's the important thing

I've heard a few deluded supporters act like he's going to solve all the world's ills. It's not going to happen. Obama is realistic about what he can do, and we should all be as well. There's an incredible, deep mess to clean up.

Obama is a great speaker, but said nothing in his speech - - though I did appreciate his shout out to non-believers...

Watered down, yes, but still in the spirit of some of the great past presidents:

Quote:
"The government of the United States is in no sense founded on the Christian Religion." - George Washington

"I do not find in Christianity one redeeming feature." - Thomas Jefferson

"The Bible is not my book, nor Christianity my profession." - Abraham Lincoln

"A just government has no need for the clergy or the church." - James Madison

"I believe in an America where religious intolerance will someday end... where every man has the same right to attend or not attend the church of his choice." - John F. Kennedy

How did America ever get so seduced and sidetracked by this religion nonsense, anyway?

I thought it was an okay speech. Not nearly as good as his convention victory speech.

I think it was pretty smart to tone down the rhetoric. Now is the time for action, not pretty speeches.

End the war in Iraq, close Gitmo, turn around the economy. Then you can pontificate all night long afterwards.

Well, some are saying he is the anti-Christ, so he could very well solve all of the world's pronblems, only to lead us to the end of the world in 2012!!!
